The Materials Manager oversees and manages all planning activities related to materials management and inventory control in the manufacturing environment. The Materials Manager translates customer delivery requirements into material strategies and processes, resulting in cost-effective processing and profitable manufacturing of products while optimizing customer satisfaction. Responsible for maintaining proper inventory levels of raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods to support business objectives.

Responsibilities

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

· Oversees and monitors supplier shipment plans to ensure sufficient product inventory to satisfy customer requirements.

· Analyzes inventory levels and accuracy and assists in resolving inventory discrepancies.

· Establishes and maintains communications to satisfy the needs of manufacturing operations while facilitating a consistent and coordinated interface with suppliers on quality, delivery, and other performance objectives.

· Develop safety stock, minimum order quantities, and optimal production quantities for raw materials, intermediates, and finished products.

· Monitors slow-moving and obsolete inventory and plans to deal with it accordingly.

· Develops, monitors, and publishes materials KPIs and sets goals for improvement.

· Drives best practices for raw material inventory management and reporting and is responsible for ensuring appropriate control mechanisms are in place to achieve exceptional levels of inventory accuracy, material availability, and service goals.

· Works closely with other departments to gather data for analysis of usage, quality, price, and manufacturing capabilities.

· Participates in inter-departmental teams working towards continuous process improvement and waste elimination.

· Works on projects to improve quality, cycle time, process variation, and efficiency.

· Verifies perpetual inventory against physical count of stock, adjusts errors in computation or count, and investigates and reports reasons for discrepancies and variances in perpetual inventories

· Reviews purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.

· Analyzes market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability.

· Confers with customers, supervisors, contractors, and other personnel to exchange information and to resolve problems.

· Serve as Supplier Development and Relationship Manager, working to implement vendor qualification process and monitoring of new programs and performance metrics.

· Review and update departmental procedures to ensure ISO compliance.

· Train employees on the process for charges, rejects, and consumption of materials.

· Work with suppliers on correct documentation required on materials received.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS | SKILLS | ABILITIES

· Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five years of experience in supply chain, logistics, and/or materials or equivalent combination of work experience in a manufacturing environment

· High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook

· Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

· Knowledge of principles and practices of inventory control, central warehousing and distribution operations

· Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and coordinating people and resources.

· Knowledge of computerized inventory control and associated databases, particularly on optimum storage space utilization.

· Skilled in negotiating and purchasing.

· Ability to plan for forthcoming projects and ensure smooth running of current/concurrent projects.

· Ability to obtain and see the appropriate equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work.

· Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, train and evaluate assigned staff.
