Responsibilities:

As the Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial reporting functions for a $35 million service business located in San Diego County. Key responsibilities include:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
  • Team Management: Lead a team of four direct reports, including AP, AR, and payroll staff.
  • Monthly Close Process: Oversee the monthly close process to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with the general manager and leadership team to provide financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.
  • Audit and Tax Support: Work closely with the corporate controller and the CFO of the holding company to support audit, tax, and consolidation processes.
  • Reporting Structure: Report directly to the corporate controller or the CFO of the holding company, depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.


Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for the Controller role possesses the following qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, a CPA is a plus but not required.
  • Experience: At least five years of experience in a controller or similar role, preferably in a service or construction industry.
  • Technical Skills: Strong technical accounting skills and knowledge of GAAP, as well as business acumen and analytical abilities.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Effective Communication: Excellent communication skills to interact with various stakeholders.
  • Cultural Fit: Comfortable working in a blue-collar culture with a flexible and casual approach.
