The Contract Senior Electrical Engineer should possess the skills, experience, and knowledge to support the Project & Business Development Teams. This position reports directly to the VP of Engineering at the current time and will assist Project Management, engineering and design positions as needed to effectively coordinate deliverable development and quality practices. The successful candidate is required to exhibit excellent communication abilities, technical proficiency, proactive & positive discipline leadership and a continuous pursuit of safety while in the office and performing field observations. Engineers are expected to attain & maintain their professional engineer licensure while continually seeking improvement of their skillset. Spartan demands the utmost quality and maintains a culture of inter-disciplinary support ensuring timely delivery of our projects.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical Responsibilities

· Support of engineering design and analysis projects primarily for the oil & gas and mining market segments. Renewable power industry experience is a plus.

· Advanced application of technical principles, theories, standards, and concepts. This will include reading and understanding design drawings and technical specifications as necessary to support preparation of project deliverables, such as calculations, specifications, and engineering evaluations.

· Development of AC & DC power systems, one-line schematics diagrams, electrical wiring diagrams, electrical area classification drawings, grounding drawings and lighting plans.

· Perform basic calculations (short circuit, cable sizing, voltage drop, conduit sizing & fill, others) with extreme proficiency related to NEC and NESC.

· Design and specify electrical equipment including medium voltage switchgear & motor control centers, low voltage switchgear & motor control centers, variable frequency drives & soft starters, motors, transformers, uninterrupted power supplies (UPS), power distribution centers (PDC’s) and other typical electrical equipment.

· Design of utility scale, ground & roof mounted PV system

· Design of heavy vehicle fleet charging sites (electric semi, bus, and van)

· Design of energy storage systems (lithium & non-lithium based technology)

· Perform Arc flash, load flow, short-circuit and protective relaying coordination studies.

· Coordinate with the team with the development of P&IDs, system control philosophies, as well as provide Electrical comments on equipment procurement specifications and packages.

· Develop Engineering/project cost estimates and schedules.

· Develop conceptual designs and execution plans.

· Work with clients and vendors to obtain, review & comment information required to complete engineering design deliverables on schedule while building long-term working relationships.

· Responsible for Quality Assurance process adherence.

· Literate in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Teams at a minimum)

· Willingness to travel as required for project development (less than 10% is normal)

· Must be able to traverse client sites to conduct walkdowns including, but not limited to, climbing ladders and stairs.

· Must be able to work outside at client sites in all weather conditions.

· Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.

· Ability to pass drug and alcohol screenings, if required to attend site/field visit and is dictated by client.


Project Management

· Provide discipline support on large scale FEED and Detailed Design stage projects.

· Communicate and develop project change requests to Project Management

· Develop and maintain strong communication lines with clients and project team members (internal and external)


SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

· BS in Electrical Engineering or similar from an ABET accredited school; MS Degree in Electrical Engineering is a plus

· Minimum of 15 years of electrical engineering experience

· Ability to be an individual contributor and work effectively in teams.

· Valid Professional Engineer license with completed NCEES record

· Experience with eTAP, Terabase/Helioscope/PVSyst, Eaton’s CYMCAP, and medium voltage gathering systems are a plus

· Advanced knowledge of National Electric Code, National Electric Safety Code, API Recommended Practice Documentation, IEEE & ISA standards
