Communications ManagerThe Policy Communications and External Affairs team is seeking an experienced communications manager to lead policy communications, media relations and communications campaigns that support policy and business objectives across the U.S. This individual will build and execute successful strategic communications campaigns at the state and local level, manage inbound media inquiries, and proactively drive awareness among key media, policy audiences and influencers of Amazons positive impact on customers and the communities where we operate. Prior experience managing communications campaigns across state and local jurisdictions is preferred. This work includes storytelling through a variety of communications channels, including traditional earned, owned, and social media. This individual will support our public policy team in advocating for a policy environment that allows us to innovate for our customers. Candidates should have a proven track record of delivering results, operating under tight deadlines, and serving as an on-the-record spokesperson. The role requires excellent communications, written, and media relations skills, and the ability to drive outcomes across multiple teams. The role is based in Arlington, VA.Key Job ResponsibilitiesDevelop and manage a broad range of external communications programs and events in support of Amazons state policy goals;Establish and foster local and regional media relationships;Create and execute communications campaigns alongside state policy partners to educate policymakers and media around specific state and local policy issues impacting Amazon businesses;Deliver communications counsel to colleagues on the state public policy team on both short- and long-term challenges and opportunities;Lead and execute events, including reporter briefings and press conferences, media and policymaker tours/events, and industry events;Support creative content creation, ranging from opinion pieces and blog articles to digital and print collateral; andDrive issues management programs and serve as key communications counselor on crises.Basic Qualifications7+ years of recent professional communications or public relations experience;Bachelors degree;Communications experience with public policy issues working for a technology company and/or government.Preferred QualificationsExperience in professional communications or public relations;Experience working with multiple groups of stakeholders;Experience serving as a spokesperson on complex issues;Ability to dive deep on public policy issues;Experience working with policy reporters;Strong understanding of the legislative process.Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $188,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
