Mid-Level AWS Postgres Database Engineer

Optomi, in partnership with a leading financial services client is seeking an AWS Postgres Database Engineer to work hybrid in their Rockville, MD location to join an agile team that enhances, maintains two Postgres-centric enterprise data platforms. They will serve as a Postgres and Python expert.

Job Duties:

  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable and efficient database architectures using AWS services like Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, Amazon Aurora, and other relevant tools.
  • Monitoring and optimizing the performance of PostgreSQL databases, including query optimization, indexing strategies, and resource allocation to ensure high performance and reliability.
  • Developing and managing robust backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability. This includes setting up automated backups, point-in-time recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Implementing and managing security best practices for PostgreSQL databases, including data encryption, access control, auditing, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Creating and maintaining scripts and automation tools for database deployment, management, monitoring, and maintenance using AWS tools such as CloudFormation, AWS Lambda, and other relevant services.


Requirements:

  • Five or more years of experience in Amazon Web Services RDS Postgres or Aurora Postgres. Experience should include development, maintenance, monitoring, and tuning.
  • Any additional experience with AWS services such as AWS Database Migration Service (DMS), Elastic Container Service, Lambda, Fargate, EC2 or S3 is also desirable.
  • Python development expertise and professional experience is required, including experience with boto3.
  • Experience with all phases of the SDLC software development life cycle from analysis, design, development, testing, implementation and maintenance and production support with timely delivery against deadlines.
  • Proficient in using Unix shell Scripting, SFTP. Created Shell Scripts for invoking python/SQL scripts.
  • Experience with implementing Jenkins Job pipelines.
  • Experience using git for version control.
  • Familiar with and able to use Scrum principles in an enterprise environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills, and a highly motivated team player with the ability to work independently. This position is on a central data platform team—the ability to work effectively with our partner teams is essential.
