Plant Manager

Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Executive Vice President Operations, the Plant Manager provides supervision and leadership to all plant operations personnel. The incumbent has the primary accountability of ensuring that production meets the requirements of the Company’s sales, and that product is produced to appropriate specifications and standards.
The Plant Manager supervises the location safety team and is responsible for having in place, administering, and monitoring required safety and environmental rules and procedures. A safe and clean workplace is the responsibility of the Plant Manager.
The Plant Manager is the key point of communication for production personnel at the plant. This responsibility includes ensuring that all production personnel receive communication regarding any policy changes, company plans or initiatives, status updates, and other important changes or issues in the Company or the location.
Essential Job Functions:
Direct the activities of production personnel, and organize and coordinate employee work schedules
Responsible for supervision and training of production personnel
Ensure that all Company policy is adhered to by plant personnel
Document and review job methods and job performance with subordinates
Within guidelines, hire, promote, discipline, and terminate employees
Accountable for proper staffing for the production process
Evaluate the performance of production personnel
Manage the production process to established metrics of productivity, quality, safety, and timeliness
Recommend and implements approved process improvement measures
Ensure adherence to approved Company safety policies and procedures
Manage a Company approved preventive maintenance plan
Coordinate with sales and purchasing to adjust production schedules as required
Perform or arrange for communication to production personnel regarding all Company and location activities and issues
Assist others in the preparation of location budgets and assist with monitoring actual expenditures as compared to budget
Perform or assist others in the production of reports relating to established metrics
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree helpful but not required if offset by extensive experience
Experience: Ten years or more experience in industry with extensive supervisory experience; distribution business experience preferred; experience in steel processing industry is highly preferred
KSAs: Good basic supervisory skills; extensive knowledge of steel processing; knowledge of production process management and control; knowledge of quality systems and metrics including ISO, QS, and six-sigma; strong process and process improvement orientation; superior problem-solving ability; conflict resolution skills; training/teaching skills; moderate analytical skills; good written and oral communication skills; good relationship skills; persuasive ability; fundamental computer skills
