Ullico Inc. is actively recruiting a Manager, New Business Underwriting within the Group Life and Health Department of Union Labor Life Insurance Company located in our Silver Spring, MD office. This position will primarily manage New Business, responsible for the underwriting profitability as we grow our Life and Stop Loss Business. Delegates workload to assigned staff and ensures underwriting is accurate as well as consistent with company guidelines and profitability goals. Analyzes claims experience along with all other factors affecting the risk to establish appropriate premium rates for new business. Maintains internal and external relationships relative to underwriting activities.
The Manager, New Business Underwriting will perform the following duties:
• Analyzes claims experience along with all other factors affecting the risk to determine appropriate premium rates on new business prospects ensuring that profitability goals are met while hitting sales goals.
• Establishes and maintains relationships with senior management, sales and with third parties including brokers, agents and administrators.
• Acts as back up to New Business Underwriting AVP
• Evaluates and recommends changes to underwriting procedures and/or systems used for underwriting.
• Assists AVP in onboarding / training new underwriters
• Analyzes profitability and blocks of business by broker partners, agents, and administrators and reports results to senior management.
• Ensures that SPDs, policies and/or amendments are reviewed for accuracy and compliance
• Perform other similar and related duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of five to seven years’ experience. Effective written and oral communication skills are required. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel is required.
