Infection Control Practitioner

GENERAL SUMMARY/BASIC PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Infection Control Practitioner, under the clinical direction of the Infection Prevention and Control and Chair of the Infection Control Committee, participates in the planning, directing, implementing and evaluating the System-wide Infection Control program. This individual will be involved in the education of patients, healthcare providers, consultation to leadership across the Sinai system. Additionally, will be involved in monitoring of healthcare practices which place patients and healthcare providers at risk, surveillance of healthcare associated infections through chart abstraction, application of standardized criteria and data submission and will communicate findings to healthcare providers/Sinai leadership. The Infection Control Practitioner is an active participant in regulatory-related activities including accreditation and licensing activities across the System. This individual will serve as an expert resource and lead System Infection Prevention projects and work groups.
RESPONSIBILTIES & DUTIES:
- The Infection Control Practitioner will be responsible for onboarding and training of new Infection Prevention staff
- Develops and implements departmental policies in consultation with the Director of Infection Prevention and Control and Chair of the Infection Control Committee
- Monitors the compliance with infection control processes to prevent outbreak
- Develops and presents education for staff
- Completes certification in infection control within 24 months of employment
- Dedicate a percent of time to infection control activities at Schwab/Holy Cross Hospitals
- Leads special projects as requested by department
- Must demonstrate knowledge of healthcare practices across the healthcare continuum and understands the infection prevention risks of age group and populations served.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, databases, NHSN, Medmine and electronic medical record review
- Proficiency in statistics, microbiology, patient care practices, epidemiology and occupational health.
- Strong relationship management skills, including team facilitation, consensus building, negotiation and the ability to influence stakeholders at multiple levels, including work team and executive leadership

- Reports to: Director of Infection Prevention Control

- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- General office environment and the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
BLOOD-BORNE PATHOGEN EXPOSURE CATEGORY
- Category 2 - Job may expose incumbent occasionally or in emergency situations to blood, body fluids, non-intact skin or tissue specimens
JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM EDUCATION
- BSN, Medical Technologist or Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Related Biological Sciences; Master’s degree preferred.
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:
- 5 or more years of clinical experience preferred and 2 years of experience in Infection Control or Public Health preferred
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Registered Nurse or MT (ASCP) in the State of Illinois preferred
