New York City Office of boutique law firm is seeking a full-time Legal Assistant/Paralegal to provide comprehensive administrative and paralegal support for attorneys and senior level staff in the General Litigation Practice. The practice focuses on matters for corporations and individuals including: commercial litigation, construction defects, insurance coverage and liquor liability. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work both independently and in a team setting. This candidate must maintain positive working relationships with attorneys, support staff and clients and must observe confidentiality of client and firm matters. Must be proficient in Outlook, Word, Adobe, NY Court E-filing and be proficient in MS Office.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Strong communication skills and knowledge of legal communication practices and principles
- Ability to think ahead and anticipate the needs of the attorneys.
- Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
- High proficiency and strong technical skills with Microsoft Office Suite and document management software
Primary duties include but are not limited to:
- Provide administrative support to attorneys
- Prepare standard correspondence, memoranda, draft motions and assist with other legal documents
- Electronically file documents with various courts in NY
- Monitoring incoming court filings
- Handle communication with opposing counsel, clients, witnesses and experts
- Maintain attorney calendars
- Conduct social media, internet and docket searches
- Locate and develop case relevant information
- Monitor deadlines
- Prepare and serve subpoenas and authorizations for medical, employment and insurance records
- Summarizing medical records into a chronology for attorney use/reference during litigation
- Scheduling depositions and issuing subpoenas to attend and testify
- Assist with discovery and trial preparation
- Retaining various experts and preparing expert packages
Qualifications:
- 2-3 years of experience as a Litigation Legal Assistant or Paralegal
- Paralegal Certificate preferred, not required
- Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree highly preferred.
