Position Summary: The Sterile Supply Technician- Certified (SST-C) performs and participates in the decontamination and cleaning of all instrumentation received, which included and is not limited to instrumentation and equipment received from all units according to established standards and procedures. The SST-C will prepare case carts and trays for decontamination and load them into washer and/or sterilizer as prescribed by procedure. Perform the operation of the index washers, cart washers, ultrasonic cleaners as well as manually cleaning instruments and equipment as prescribed by established standards and procedures. The SST-C will disassemble, clean, assemble and test patient care equipment for proper functioning; route cleaned equipment to appropriate holding areas. The SST-C may use chemicals in the appropriate fashion taking into consideration the intended use of the chemical as well as the chemical's function; knowledge of the appropriate PPE is also necessary. The SST-C will sort dirty linen, trash and BFI and disposes of them according to established procedure, use PPE in the appropriate fashion in all areas, and will assure linen for packs are inspected, folded and assembled for sterilization in the prescribed manner according to documented policies and procedures. The SST-C must be willing to coordinate alternate housing within the facility in advance of shifts when inclement weather potential threatens the ability to get to the facility. The SST-C may be required to report back to work during any emergency situation i.e. mass casualty, internal disaster, etc. Education: • High School Diploma required. Experience: • Previous experience in a hospital setting preferred. • Previous specific experience with hospital patient transporting preferred. • Previous specific experience with surgical services environmental services preferred. Licensure/Certification/Registration: • Central Service/SPD Training Course certification required. Special Skills: • Exemplary core customer service skills strongly required. • Strong verbal communication skills required. • Strong PC skills required.
