The Role


Griffin Resources is recruiting on behalf of an Accounting Firm located in Boston, MA.

The Client Accounting and Advisory Services Director position is responsible for leading our client services team in delivering premium, sophisticated accounting and financial reporting services to our clients. As the Client Accounting and Advisory Services Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our client services strategy, while fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration within the team. While this is a Director level role, this person will remain very hands-on and personally design policies, onboard new clients, deliver high-level accounting and advisory, and lead budgeting and forecasting while also delegating and managing the work of your team members.


Responsibilities


  • Lead and manage a team of 2-5 accountants in delivering monthly accounting and financial reporting services to clients.
  • Design and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and high-quality service delivery.
  • Personally onboard new clients, ensuring a seamless transition and understanding of their unique needs and objectives.
  • Develop and nurture strong client relationships by serving as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact, ensuring regular communication, exceptional customer service, and anticipation of client needs.
  • Provide exceptional accounting and advisory services to clients, including budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning.
  • Build out the client services practice by enhancing and expanding the existing client base through proactive business development efforts.
  • Contribute to marketing and business development initiatives to promote the firm's services and attract new clients.
  • Manage small business accounting projects for various clients, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Manage distribution of workflows and deadlines, optimizing productivity and service delivery.
  • Record and reconcile monthly general ledger account activity, including accruals and prepaids, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Troubleshoot issues as they arise, demonstrating proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Analyze and monitor financial information, conduct variance analysis, and oversee cash management to optimize client financial performance.
  • Prepare year-end closings for tax preparation purposes, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Provide payroll services, including monthly and quarterly payroll tax filings, to ensure accurate payroll processing.
  • Utilize bill pay software and wire transfers for payment of vendor invoices, maintaining financial integrity.
  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership skills by effectively delegating tasks, providing mentorship and guidance to team members, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
  • Exhibit exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, in all interactions with clients, team members, and firm leadership.
  • Undertake special projects and fulfill other requests as needed, showcasing versatility and adaptability.


Qualifications


  • 10+ years of experience in public accounting, with a focus on client services and financial reporting, including substantial experience with true debits and credits accounting principles.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation highly preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting principles and regulations, with the ability to apply strategic thinking to complex financial issues.
  • Proven track record of success in leading and managing teams, with a strong emphasis on coaching, development, and performance management.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport and credibility with clients and colleagues at all levels.
  • Strong business acumen and demonstrated experience in business development, client relationship management, and marketing.
  • Attention to detail, advanced organizational skills, and ability to multi-task.
  • Proficiency in accounting software, including QuickBooks, and Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills.
  • Preference for candidates with payroll experience, demonstrating proficiency in processing payroll, including knowledge of relevant tax regulations and payroll software.
