The Production Engineer leads the assigned Manufacturing Unit(s) to achieve targets for Safety, Environmental, Production, Quality, and Cost. The Production Engineer is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the chemical manufacturing plant. This role involves ensuring that production processes run smoothly, efficiently, and safely, meeting quality standards and production targets. This role will lead a team of production staff, coordinating with other departments to optimize productivity and maintain compliance with industry regulations and company policies. This individual will also be responsible for the development and execution of unit capital projects along and unit improvements with respect to Continuous Improvement of the plant’s manufacturing operations.


Position: Production Engineer

Reports To: Manufacturing Manager

Salary Range: $90K-$115K

Job Responsibilities:

Work closely with the Manufacturing leadership and the facility work force

  • Provide production-engineering support to improve process flow, production yields, cost reduction, equipment reliability, waste generation, and EHS improvements through lean manufacturing concepts
  • Lead improvement teams, impact events, and production analysis
  • Ensure EHS compliance with company, government, and outside agency requirements as they relate to capital projects, maintenance repairs, and other work performed in the department and assigned.
  • Monitor production schedules and adjust as needed to meet production targets and customer demands.
  • Implement and maintain production standards and ensure compliance with quality control procedures.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate production staff, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to communicate goals, provide updates, and address any issues.
  • Develop de-bottlenecking plans to improve product expansion / volume increase to attract new products to the plant
  • Identify areas for process improvement and implement changes to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and lower costs.
  • Utilize lean manufacturing principles and other methodologies to streamline production operations.
  • Ensure all production activities comply with industry safety standards and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections, addressing any hazards or non-compliance issues promptly.
  • Manage the allocation of resources, including raw materials, equipment, and labor, to optimize production output.
  • Maintain accurate production records and prepare reports on production performance, including output, efficiency, and quality metrics
  • Develop and manage capital projects as they relate to process improvements
  • Responsible for meeting department goals, objectives, and work plans with little oversight from Manufacturing Manager
  • Conformance with the Quality and Environmental, Health, Safety and Security policies and awareness of ISO 9001 and RC14001 management system requirements applicable to this position


Required Qualifications


4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering.

3+ years operations and/ or Process Engineering experience in a chemical or petrochemical manufacturing setting.

0-3+ years supervisory experience in a chemical or petrochemical manufacturing setting.

Good customer skills, strategic thinking, good communication skills both verbally and written, strong technical aptitude, multi-task oriented.

Complete understanding around Continuous Improvement Processing within a manufacturing environment.

SAP experience preferred.

Computer literate – expertise in Microsoft Office required. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred.


Physical Requirements:

Must be physically able to operate variety of electronic office equipment – computer, printer, radio, phone.

At times, prolonged periods of sitting at desk working on computer/workstation and on calls.

May occasionally need to lift up to 10 pounds.

May occasionally need to bend, stoop, reach and/or twist at the waist.

Ability based upon position and need to perform duties/visit/walk through a manufacturing environment with the following conditions; chemical and mechanical operations, dust and fumes, working within safe but proximity to forklift and machine operations, exposure to heat and humidity, hearing or talking around loud machinery.

Wearing of personal protective equipment as required.
