Montana State Hospital (MSH) in Warm Springs

The hospital is the only publicly operated psychiatric hospital in the state. It was founded by the territorial government in 1877. The hospital was once Montana's largest unincorporated community. Its peak census was in 1954 when the facility housed 1,964 patients. The census averages under 200 patients, primarily placed by civil court commitment action. The facility also includes a forensic unit for individuals who have either been found mentally ill or are undergoing evaluation while unfit to proceed. Exceptionally violent patients may also reside on the forensic unit regardless of criminal charges.

174 Beds Psychiatric Hospital

Certified Nurse Aides(CNAs)assist residents with daily living activities. Responsibilities include: 1) assisting the residents with basic hygiene such as bathing, oral hygiene, and dressing; 2) performing health related tasks such as taking and recording vital signs, collecting specimens ,and assisting in emergency situations; and 3) transports the residents to appointments assisting as needed.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity

  • Ability to communicate information and follow instructions explicitly both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to make observations and report/record accurately.
  • Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, maintaining them over time.
  • Basic knowledge of personal hygiene.
  • Meet minimum qualifications:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Valid Montana Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification.
    • Two years of job-related experience working with other people in a healthcare setting or group home.

Other combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
