Job Description: We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Construction AP, Payroll, and Operations Accountant to join our team. This role will be responsible for managing accounts payable processes, payroll functions, and supporting operations accounting for our construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, payroll processing, and operational support within the construction industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable (AP):
Process invoices accurately and timely for construction projects and overhead expenses.
Verify approvals and coding for invoices and expense reports.
Prepare and perform check runs and electronic payments.
Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
Assist with month-end closing processes related to AP.
Payroll:
Process weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly payroll for construction employees.
Verify timekeeping records and reconcile discrepancies as needed.
Calculate wages, deductions, and withholdings, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Prepare and distribute payroll reports and summaries to management.
Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees and management promptly and professionally.
Maintain accurate records of payroll transactions and employee information.
Assist with payroll tax filings and compliance, including W-2s and 1099s.
Operations Accounting:
Assist in managing financial aspects of construction projects, including budgeting, cost analysis, and reporting.
Provide financial insights and recommendations to project teams and management.
Ensure compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements specific to the construction industry.
Collaborate with project managers and operations teams to support financial decision-making processes.
Track and analyze costs associated with specific jobs or projects.
Monitor and report on project budgets, expenditures, and forecasts.
Cost Allocation:
Allocate direct and indirect costs to jobs based on appropriate allocation methods.
Ensure accurate and timely recording of costs in the accounting system
Prepare job cost reports, including job cost summaries and profitability analysis.
General Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with HR, project managers, and accounting teams to resolve issues and improve processes.
Provide support for audits and assist in preparing financial reports as needed.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
3-5 years of combined experience in accounts payable, payroll processing, and operations accounting, preferably in the construction industry.
Knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, and operations accounting principles, taxes, and compliance requirements.
Experience with payroll and accounting software (e.g., ADP, Paychex, QuickBooks) and advanced MS Excel skills.
Strong attention to detail, accuracy in data entry and calculations.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Excellent communication skills and customer service orientation.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
