Information Technology Support Technician

The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, configuring, administering, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining network, wireless, handheld, and video camera equipment.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years of related IT or help desk experience and bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Fiber installation certification preferred.
  • Great verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate across all organizational levels.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize work and multi-task.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to drive and operate a forklift or aerial lift equipment preferred.
  • The selected applicant must pass a pre-employment background check, which may include the following: academic record and verification of education/certifications, employment history (including references), criminal history, driving record, fingerprinting, drug and alcohol testing, fit for duty physical, and other records or information related to the candidate's suitability for the position.
  • The selected applicant must be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card).


Responsibilities

  • Provide support to employees or internal customers in resolving basic to complex technology issues. Ensure the proper day-to-day operation of technology applications and equipment.
  • Deploy and maintain computers, printers, and other Information Technology (IT) equipment.
  • Install, maintain and repair: network equipment, network fiber and communications lines, video cameras, wireless access points, visitor management security systems, operations kiosks and OCR portal equipment.
  • Analyze technical issues based on information provided, observation, testing, and product knowledge. Recommend replacement of faulty network, camera, or kiosk equipment.
  • Maintain all forms of network cabling inside buildings (fiber, CAT 5/6, patch cables, etc). Ensure that all work is done with maximum quality.
  • Complete written reports, repair logs, and other required documentation in a concise and timely manner.
  • Coordinate and prioritize daily tasks to meet evolving business needs, while ensuring quality and productivity standards are maintained.
  • Follow established departmental procedures and processes and maintain current knowledge of relevant IT equipment.
  • Ensures public records and information are managed, maintained, and disposed in accordance to the Library of Virginia retention and disposition schedules
  • Ensures compliance with all security, safety, and environmental regulations and policies within work area at all times. This includes properly addressing issues through action or reporting issues and concerns to Manager.
