Job Title: Fiscal Officer

Location: Shreveport, LA

Reports to: Executive Director

Job Summary:

The fiscal officer plays a critical role in the organization's financial management. They are responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The Fiscal Officer works closely with the Executive Director to develop financial strategies and ensure the organization's long-term financial stability.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Management: Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing, and budget monitoring.
  2. Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop and monitor the organization's annual budget. Prepare financial forecasts and projections to support strategic decision-making.
  3. Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial reports. Ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  4. Grant Management: Oversee grant accounting and reporting processes. Coordinate with program managers to ensure grant funds are utilized in accordance with donor requirements.
  5. Audit and Compliance: Coordinate annual audits and ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and accounting standards. Implement internal controls to safeguard the organization's assets.
  6. Financial Planning: Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop long-term financial strategies and goals. Provide financial insights and recommendations to support organizational growth and sustainability.
  7. Risk Management: Identify financial risks and implement strategies to mitigate them. Stay informed about changes in financial regulations and best practices in the non-profit sector.
  8. Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor accounting staff members. Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement within the accounting department.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. CPA certification preferred.
  • Proven experience in financial management, preferably in a non-profit or mission-driven organization.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including GAAP and fund accounting.
  • Experience with financial software systems and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail. Ability to interpret financial data and communicate insights effectively.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the organization. Demonstrated integrity and ethical conduct in financial management.
