About ThePosition

The RN assisting Dr. Pandya is responsible for reviewing and managing nursing triage calls and provider-specific communications to ensure the highest quality of care for the patients. This role involves coordinating with Dr. Pandya and his team to establish and implement comprehensive care plans, assisting in patient follow-ups, and providing education to the patients. The nurse will also support the emotional well-being of patients and their families and ensure adherence to clinical guidelines and protocols

Essential Duties And Responsibilities.

Patient Communication and Coordination:

  • Review nursing triage calls and provider-specific communications, including emails, patient portal messages, and phone calls, to coordinate care plans with providers
  • Assist with patient follow-up visits, particularly for those on active therapy, to assess and identify adverse reactions and side effects of treatments administered via parenteral or oral routes
  • Identify changes in patient vitals or symptoms to detect acute scenarios requiring prompt intervention

Patient Education and Support:

  • Educate patients and their families on treatment and care plans, addressing questions and concerns
  • Provide education on symptom control and non-prescription management options based on patient-specific characteristics
  • Support the emotional well-being of patients and provide information on resources available for family members and patients

Care Planning and Documentation:

  • Assist with new patient consults by gathering initial subjective and clinical information and reviewing available medical records, including prior provider documentation, hospital records, consultant records, radiology reports, and pathology reports
  • Collaborate with the medical team to create, implement, and evaluate patient care plans
  • Ensure timely and adequate documentation of all clinical interactions, including visit notes, phone conversations, and clinic updates

Medication Management:

  • Send prescriptions and refills based on verbal orders from providers, reviewing medication lists and allergies to verify possible interactions

Guideline and Compliance Adherence:

  • Become knowledgeable about the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines and utilize them as a resource for cancer patient management
  • Utilize treatment compendia for verification of treatment flowsheets, dosing, treatment intervals, and supportive medications. o Apply evidence-based resources (e.g., UpToDate, ASCO, NIH, ACS, Mayo Clinic) to obtain clinical information and support management options

Quality and Compliance:

  • Input patient characteristics into value-based oncology programs to meet third-party payer requirements
  • Enter oncology patient-specific characteristics into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to meet quality, compliance, and oncology certification metrics and requirements

Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a current TX license
  • Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in oncology nursing or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of oncology protocols and treatment guidelines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in using EMR systems and other healthcare technology
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a current TX license
  • Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in oncology nursing or a related field

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: .

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The position may require occasional evening hours
