Innovent Technologies is a small entrepreneurial contract manufacturing company located in Peabody, MA. Innovent has two different divisions that primarily supply the Semiconductor and R&D industries with a focus on clean and complex work.  The Precision Fabrication Group has the engineering expertise and the machining and welding capabilities to make challenging components and assemblies typically in the areas of wafer handling and cooling as well as process gas sub systems. The System Assembly Group is a more traditional contract manufacturer that builds and tests subassemblies through complex turnkey systems for our customers. 


Job Overview: The Welding Engineer product specialist will be responsible for overseeing both automated and manual welding processes within the manufacturing environment. This role requires a deep understanding of TIG and orbital welding methodologies, process control, troubleshooting, and machinery operation. The ideal candidate will possess the necessary credentials and experience to enhance welding operations, improve efficiency, and maintain the highest standards of quality.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop, evaluate, and improve welding manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
  • Guide technical staff in developing materials for welding plans and procedures.
  • Monitor and control all aspects of the welding process, including the use of automated welding.
  • Implement and maintain Statistical Process Control (SPC) systems to track and improve production quality.
  • Analyze and plan workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout for maximum efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot issues with welding machinery and equipment.
  • Collaborate with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for the purchase of equipment, materials, or parts according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations related to welding operations.
  • Conduct training sessions on welding techniques and machinery for production staff.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support continuous improvement initiatives and projects.


Qualifications:

·       Bachelor's degree in Welding or Mechanical Engineering or 15 years of hands-on welding background showing career progression with Engineering responsibilities.

·       Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

·       Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

·       Proficiency in SolidWorks software creating CAD models.

·       Process control and lean manufacturing experience.

·       Professional certification or credentials in welding.  

·       Proven experience in both automated and manual welding processes.

·       Experience with tube benders and tube/pipe cutting process.

·       Experience developing inspection aids for weldments applications.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including standing for extended periods and handling heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work in a Class 1,000 (ISO Class 5) cleanroom occasionally.
