Purpose

Serve as a career services coach and advisor for students in the College of Education (COE). Empower COE students to engage in early career exploration, skill-building, and mapping to create and implement meaningful career pathways. The career coach will serve all undergraduate and graduate students across five academic departments within the College of Education and will advance our core mission of fostering wellness, belonging, and success for all students. Position is part of the student affairs team and reports to the Director of Career Engagement.

Responsibilities
  • Career Coaching: Provide comprehensive career coaching services, including career and industry exploration; defining career goals; developing career plans; navigating and understanding various industries; internship assistance; work-study employment support; resume and cover letter critiques; interview preparation; and connecting students with resources. Provide career counseling and career assessment interpretation for students, as needed. Promote and support student utilization of career-related technology tools. Research employment trends, industry insights, and best practices in career coaching and counseling. Engage in continued career education learning and professional development.

  • Career Services Program Implementation Support: Plan, coordinate, and deliver industry-focused career programming and workshops. Create tailored resources and opportunities for career and professional development for the many disciplinary specialties within the College. Collaborate with COE/University employer engagement to foster student-employer connections.As necessary, facilitate career planning courses, including development and delivery of curriculum.

  • Represent COE career services in on-campus and off-campus meetings and conferences. Promote collaboration, information exchange, and professional development for students, staff, and faculty related to career services. Establish and maintain effective external and internal communications with employers and other career services personnel for collaboration and professional development.

  • Other duties as assigned, including supporting special projects and staffing events within COE.

Required Qualifications

Master‘s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling or a related field and at least three years of experience in career services; OR bachelor‘s degree and 5 years of experience in career services. Demonstrated interest in working with students in a career or mentoring capacity. Excellent project management abilities, interpersonal skills, and oral and written communication skills. Comfortable presenting to large groups. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Relevant education and experience may be substituted, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master‘s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling or related field, and more than the required experience. Experience teaching or coaching students in an academic or career setting. Experience using Canvas, Canva, Handshake, and Zoom.

Salary Range

$55,000+ depending on qualifications
