THE POSITION

Washington County‘s Information Technology Services (ITS) Department is excited to announce an opportunity for a Systems Administration Supervisor within the Infrastructure and Operations Division This leadership role oversees an experienced Server Administration Team within the division, combining day-to-day operational excellence with strategic short- and long-term planning. The successful candidate will implement industry best practices, driving innovation and efficiency across server, storage, and cloud infrastructure.

The Opportunity
The Systems Administration Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the implementation and support of the County‘s enterprise server, storage, and cloud infrastructure. The Supervisor leads a team of experienced server administrators and enterprise architect, ensuring the efficient use of staff and resources through strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of systems administration functions. Additionally, this role involves performing a wide range of technical duties related to information systems administration, developing and implementing procedures, and exercising independent initiatives and professional judgments to solve problems and achieve organizational goals.

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

It is essential to have a deep understanding of enterprise server, storage, and cloud infrastructure and stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in information systems administration. Knowledge of:
  • Principles of leadership, supervision, collaboration, active listening, training, evaluation, and performance coaching.

  • Principles and practices of budget development and administration.
  • Principles and practices of contract administration and evaluation.
  • Administrative principles and practices, including goal setting, program development; change management, implementation and assessment, and project management.

  • Organization and management practices as applied to the development, analysis, and evaluation of programs and operational needs of supported teams and workgroups.
  • Information system architecture, virtual infrastructure, Infrastructure security, cloud services, network, and server administration.
  • Current best practices relative to information systems network, and server administration.
  • Client/Server application software, monitoring and alerting platforms and systems maintenance.
  • Server operating systems, database management systems, and information security practices.
Skills to:
  • Provide strategic direction as well as communicate that in writing and verbally for teams or working groups.
  • Manage multiple priorities with varying deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Coach other IT professionals in translating technical solutions into user-friendly terms for stakeholders with varying levels of information technology knowledge.
Ability to:
  • Analyze system design for stability and security as well as meet or exceed user requirements.
  • Maintain a skill base of current trends and developments relative to information systems technology.
  • Research, analyze, and evaluate new service delivery methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • Recommend and implement goals, objectives, and practices for providing effective and efficient services.
  • Analyze and diagnose problems and exercise ingenuity and inventiveness in devising solutions.
  • Evaluate and improve the effectiveness of service delivery efforts.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Supervise and performance coach subordinates.
  • Plan, assign, evaluate, and guide the work of subordinates.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationships with individuals and groups who come from diverse backgrounds and represent members of the public, coworkers, and/or vendors.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Nine (9) years of experience providing professional level information technology analysis and support. Two (2) of the years of experience must be supervising other information technology professionals. OR
  • An Associate degree in computer science, business administration, or related field; AND seven (7) years of experience providing professional level information technology analysis and support. Two (2) of the years of experience must be supervising other information technology professionals. OR
  • A Bachelor‘s degree in computer science, business administration, or related field; AND five (5) years of experience providing professional level information technology analysis and support. Two (2) of the years of experience must be supervising other information technology professionals.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

  5. Conditional Offer of Appointment: Human Resources will conduct a salary analysis for the successful candidate(s) and extend an offer of appointment.
  6. Post-Offer Check: The successful candidate will undergo a background check including a reference check.
  7. Start Date: A start date will be determined after all conditions of employment have been met.
