Basic Function
The Junior/ Mid-level Industrial Designer supports the design and development of new packaging solutions and improvements. This position assists in taking products from concept through production while working under the guidance of senior team members. The role requires a foundational understanding of design principles, a keen eye for aesthetics, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving. Knowledge of molding, plastics, and printing basics is beneficial.
Job Responsibilities - Other duties may be assigned
- Assist in Evaluating Packaging Solutions: Support the evaluation of current and proposed packaging solutions, considering factors like appearance, design-function relationships, serviceability, materials, and production costs.
- Conceptualization and Sketching: Conceptualizes, illustrates, and communicates new product concepts through quick sketching, mockups, 3D modeling, and renderings.
- Client Interaction: Attend onsite/ offsite client meetings. Must be comfortable communicating and presenting designs and models.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Product Development, Engineering, and Operations teams to ensure design consistency and support the implementation of key design features.
- Research: Participates in creation of concept research product definition: customer needs, idea generation, feasibility, specifications, concept visions and models in a team environment.
- Analysis: Performs technical analysis of competitive products and analyzes competitive trends/ activities by visiting retail stores.
- Support Client Presentations: Assist in preparing and presenting design concepts to clients, both onsite and offsite, as needed.
- Project Assistance: Provide support in the development and refinement of product designs, ensuring they align with brand standards and manufacturability.
- Learning and Development: Continuously improve design skills and knowledge through collaboration and feedback from senior designers.
Qualifications / Education and/or Experience:
- Degree in Industrial Design or related field.
- 0-4 years of professional experience in industrial design or related internships.
- Excellent visual communication and form development skills demonstrated in your sketching
- Familiarity with 3D CAD modeling & rendering (SolidWorks/Keyshot).
- Proficiency in 2D design tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
- Strong willingness to learn and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication skills and ability to take direction well.
