Job Summary Develops, implements, and evaluates therapeutic recreation/leisure activities for persons with disabling conditions invarious program areas which include creative and performing arts, environments/nature studies, sports, gross motoractivity, fitness, and aquatic programs for adults and youth to meet the diverse leisure needs of the citizens withdisabling conditions. Job Description Overview The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist coordinates, plans, develops, and facilitatesrecreational and cultural programs for individuals with disabilities and therapeutic needs. Essential Functions 1 Facilitates, plans, coordinates, and monitors adult day habilitation program and outings. Plans, coordinates, and monitors special needs programs; facilitates various and diverse programming for adults with various disabilities. 2 Supervises and directs daily program and activity coordination of the therapeutic facility; provides specialized assistance for program staff, reservations, and building maintenance to ensure a positive and productive atmosphere for staff and citizens. 3 Assists with organizing and conducting special events for youth and adults to ensure a variety of programs areprovided to all patrons of Bachman Therapeutic Center facility; develops and coordinates summer and seasonal programs with increase in personnel to ensure successful implementation; instructs and facilitates leisure service activities to ensure awareness of rules, methods, and skills required for participation by all user groups. 4 Provides information to participants, and the public regarding the various functions of the therapeutic centerincluding the variety of programs and classes offered for the benefit of the community; offers excellent customer service and direction. 5 Serves as liaison between the assigned recreation center and the community, schools, churches, businesses, and other social groups and agencies to promote programs, facilitate fund raising efforts, and allow for cooperative endeavors. 6 Assists in all functions related to collection and reconciliation of funds and financial records; inputs data required for program creation, program maintenance, program registration, and report printing using recreation registration software. 7 Performs any and all other tasks as needed or assigned. Knowledge and Skills 1 Basic knowledge of impaired populations and functioning characteristics. 2 Basic knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles and techniques. 3 Knowledge of first aid principles and practices and lifeguarding certifications if working with aquatics classes. 4 Ability to enforce recreation, program, and sporting regulations. 5 Marketing, promoting, and developing strong and effective therapeutic programming and special events. 6 Basic accounting principles. 7 Establishing and maintaining effective relationships. 8 Knowledge of strong customer service principles and practices. 9 Communicating effectively orally and in writing. Experience 3 years of experience in recreation programming Licenses and Certifications Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Education High School Diploma, GED Salary Range $24.14 - $28.36 The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
