Deputy Director of Parent and Young Children ProgramsThe Office of Safety Education and Outreach (SEO) seeks a Deputy Director of Parent and Young Children Programs to manage the planning, scheduling, and day-to-day operations of traffic safety education and outreach for parents, caregivers, and families with young children. The Deputy Director will report directly to the Director of Education and Program Planning to develop program content, materials, goals, and benchmarks. The Deputy Director will ensure that programs are aligned with agency priorities, grounded in data and research, and delivered in high-risk priority locations across New York City through partnerships conducted through Outreach to schools, health centers, hospitals, and community organizations. The Deputy Director will supervise an Outreach Specialist responsible for parent and caregiver workshops and will provide training, coaching, and evaluation to ensure staff are equipped with the necessary tools and professional skills to deliver high-quality traffic safety training. Supervisory responsibilities will include observing and mentoring staff in the field, managing schedules and calendars to ensure outreach benchmarks are met, and conducting staff evaluations. The responsibilities of the Deputy Director will include: planning and conducting Parent Awareness workshops for parents through PTAs, SLTs, and parent-teacher conferences; conducting Pre-K workshops, Safety Showers, and other early childhood outreach sessions at schools, health centers, and hospitals; delivering presentations both in person and virtually; and ensuring that all workshops adhere to established curricula, benchmarks, and program standards. The Deputy Director will also represent SEO at citywide outreach events such as Truck Experience, Safety Zones, Grandparents Week and Safe Kids Week. The Deputy Director's responsibilities will also include: managing activities for the Child Passenger Safety (CPS) grant program including preparing grant applications, progress reports, and required documentation; tracking grant deadlines and keeping car seat inventory; ordering of the car seats; maintaining CPS Technician certification and training other staff to obtain certification; planning and conducting car seat check events, inspections, and public safety demonstrations; scheduling members of the public for car seat fittings; and serving as a subject-matter expert to provide accurate safety information in alignment with agency policy and state standards. In addition, the Deputy Director will represent SEO at meetings with outside partners such as Safe Kids NYC and other community coalitions, coordinating joint initiatives and ensuring consistent communication with partner organizations. The Deputy Director will assist in the planning and coordination of CPS Week, Safe Kids Week, and other special events, including site scouting, staffing coordination, and logistical preparation. The role will also include handling administrative tasks such as responding to public inquiries, maintaining accurate data and program files, preparing reports, and updating calendars. The Deputy Director will attend required staff trainings, incorporate new skills and information into outreach efforts, and share knowledge with peers and supervisors. The Deputy Director may also assist with training other staff. Other duties will include performing related work as needed by supervisory staff and the Assistant Commissioner, attending mandatory SEO meetings, and handling last-minute assignments across all five boroughs.
