OUR TEAM: The Analytical Chemistry team at Promega is a part of the R&D Chemistry Discovery group. We are focused on using analytical chemistry to drive technology development and new product development for chemical products with biological applications. We analyze a wide range of molecules including small organic compounds, peptides, proteins, oligonucleotides, synthetic polymers, and particles. We work in a dynamic, collaborative environment with other scientists with the shared goal of inventing high quality reagents for the scientific community.
YOUR ROLE: As an Analytical Chemistry Intern, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with expert analytical chemists and other scientists to explore ideas and contribute to projects that will advance research at Promega. This role offers a rich learning environment where you will recieve hands on training with analytical instrumentation in an industrial research setting.
We anticipate that this internship will last from roughly May 2025 to September 2025.
JOB OBJECTIVE: The Analytical Chemistry Intern will assist in analysis and method development of small organic molecules and other chemical materials using state-of-the-art instrumentation and techniques. This role will help advance Promega‘s chemistry research for products with biological applications. The intern will work under the guidance of an expert chemist and perform laboratory experiments and associated tasks. May present experimental results to individuals and groups.
Estimated starting salary range is $21.00 - $23.00/hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
The full salary range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hour.
CORE DUTIES:
1. Conducts routine analysis of small organic molecules and other chemical materials to support technology development and new product development.
2. Manages and tracks analytical experiments, including design, execution, results, and data, in a traceable manner, using electronic laboratory notebooks or other methods.
3. Evaluates and interprets results from analytical instruments and techniques, such as NMR, HPLC, and UV/vis spectroscopy.
4. Operates all laboratory equipment according to training and SOPs. Investigates and understands the difference between equipment, process, and product related issues.
5. Understand and comply with all elements of the PBI quality system appropriate for this position.
6. Understand and comply with safety requirements of the laboratory environment, including the use of PPE, safe chemical handling, and waste disposal. Monitor and report on safety practices of assigned area.
7. Integrates seamlessly into our collaborative, fast-paced, team environment.
8. Actively engage in fostering good communication and teamwork within and across all departments and collaborate outside of PBI as appropriate.
9. Demonstrates inclusion through their own words and actions and is accountable for a safe workspace. Acts with kindness, curiosity, and respect for others.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Currently pursuing a BS degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Analytical Chemistry.
2. Completed coursework in organic chemistry, biochemistry, or analytical chemistry.
3. Ability to review and interpret technical documents and scientific literature.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Hands-on experience with NMR, HPLC, or spectrophotometers.
2. Experience in automated data analysis (e.g., Python, R).
3. Interest in applying AI and machine learning to scientific problems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Must be able to move about the building and labs including climbing stairs.
2. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
3. Must be able to stand for long periods.
4. Good hearing, vision, and sense of smell is required.
5. Must be able to identify and distinguish colors.
6. Requires corrected vision for near (within 20 cm) and far (greater than 3m) activities.
7. Must be able to use a computer for long periods.
