Customs Entry Writer

Seeking an experienced Customs Entry Writer is responsible to adhere to all domestic and international shipping regulations for U.S. Customs and other government agencies clearances. Position is located in Cerritos, CA full time, 100% onsite with a compensation $24.00 - $25.00/hr. D.O.E.


Responsibilities

1. Preparing U.S. Customs entries for a wide range of imports, including but not limited to RLF entries, heavy FDA data input, and Filing of Fish & Wildlife entries.

2. Ensure that all documents required by U.S. Customs regulations are correct and in compliance with U.S. Customs law.

3. Perform audit review on all assigned brokerage files and payments to U.S. Customs.

4. Process documents through the company’s ABI (Automated Broker Interface) system, obtaining U.S. Customs and other government agency releases as appropriate.

5. Develop and maintain customer profiles based on the customer’s shipment history.

6. Coordinate with customers to classify new commodities according to HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule).

7. Follow SOP’s for each customer on the correct method and data required for preparing an entry.


STATEMENT:

1. Check daily statement and make payment to U.S. Customs

2. Send approved statement to Accounts Payable

3. Input backup into Dropbox


ISF (10+2) FILING:

1. Ensure all ISF’s are filed on timely matter and responses are sent within the day.

2. If ISF’s are for other brokers, please forward the information to the correct party and request confirmation of receipt of ISF transaction #

3. Check and request all ISF are to be send to us to file within 24-48 HRS prior to LFP (Last Foreign Port) ETD

a. (Check carrier tracking site or request full vessel schedule from Agent).

4. If ISF is a late filing, an indemnity letter is required for us to file.

CLASSIFICATION:

1. Answer any Brokerage related inquiries internally and externally

2. Must research the commodity and provide accurate HTS/PGA requirements prior to sending to agents and customers.

3. Ensure inquiries are searched properly by using tools such as CROSS (Customs Rulings Online Search System)


ENTRY:

1. Must Query AMS information for all files and ensure that piece count, AMS, HBL/MBL, HAWB/MAWB have no discrepancies and if ISF’s have been filed prior to entry submission.

2. Ensure that all entries are properly classified by using tools such as company profiles, CROSS (Customs Rulings Online search System), Internet and communicating with the Importer of record.

3. Check all information prior to submitting entry, IOR (Importer of record) and POE (Port of Entry) is a must. If these are incorrectly entered, entry must be deleted to correct these errors.

4. Check system for release, Query AMS, Tracking and tracing shipments with steamship lines and airlines.

5. Responsible for checking availability and following up with carriers, terminals, truckers, to coordinate and resolve any possible issues that may occur.

6. Responsible for following up with Government agencies to resolve any issues (Mainly the following government agencies but not limited to: Customs, CBP Agriculture, FDA).

7. Send 7501/3461 and ACE releases on a timely matter and have operations confirm 7501 is correct prior to paying duty.

8. Inputting cost, sending Invoice.

9. Uploading entry packet to Dropbox.


Education and Minimum Experience:

  • High school or equivalent (Required)
  • Logistics: 3 years (Required)
  • U.S. Customs: 3 years (Preferred)
