In the course of a year, we provide more than 3,000 children, ages 6 weeks through Pre-K with high-quality literacy and STEAM-infused learning; give 58,000 youth and teens access to sports, aquatics, day and resident camps, teen leadership development programs, and employment opportunities; provide over 200,000 members with programs, services, and facilities to enjoy connection and maintain wellness regardless of age; and engage over 25,000 volunteers and donors from across Atlanta to share in the gift of supporting their communities.Nature And ScopeUnder the general direction of the Associate or Executive Director, the Youth Development Director provides hands-on leadership for the development and operations of various programs, such as play center, teen leadership, day camp, membership, and community events. Please note that these activities may require extended periods outdoors.Responsibilities (Including, But Not Limited To):Develop, implement, and manage operating plans to promote program growth, program impact and safety for the YMCA.Provide day-to-day supervision of staff/volunteers related to the overall department.Design practices, processes, and procedures for strong youth development programs.Build relationships and a small community atmosphere among our Y program members.Recruit and hire diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success.Organize people and activities for efficiencies and effectiveness.Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals and reviews and evaluates staff performance.Measure progress against strategic goals and ensures continuous improvement.Ensure that program standards are met, and safety procedures are followed.Develop and control department budgets related to the position so that resources are developed to top priorities and strategic objectives.Provide daily oversight as to expenditures and revenue collection.Use data to analyze financial trends and forecast future financial progress for the branch.Manage registrations, rosters, record keeping, etc.Market and distribute program information, organize, and schedule program registrations, as well as review and process program scholarship applications.Establish new activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations and fellow YMCA branches.Foster a climate of innovation.Collaborate with the Association key departments to lead, coordinate and support implementation of key initiatives related to marketing, social media and communications, human resources, and financial development.Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.Conduct pilots for new programs; develop plans and manage best practices through engagement of the staff team.Lead assigned aspects of the fund-raising campaign.RequirementsHigh School diploma or GED and 4+ years of experience in child development, recreation, elementary education, or related field OR a bachelor's degree and 2+ years of experience in child development, recreation, elementary education, or related field.1+ years of direct people management experienceAbility to effectively communicate and manage information to program participants, community leaders, and volunteers and staff of all agesAbility to establish, collaborate and maintain relationships with all stakeholdersExcellent attention to detail, follow-through, and execution on grant obligations.Proficient knowledge of computers, various technology, and applicationsAbility to handle multiple tasks, work independently, problem solve and possess effective time management skillsMust be able to obtain within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens trainingMust be 21 years or oldReferred RequirementsBachelor's degree required in child development, recreation, elementary education or related field5+ years program and/or people management experience working in an education or childcare environmentExperience recruiting, cultivating, and supervising volunteers4+ years of program or non-profit experienceYMCA Team Leader certificationPrior people AND program management experienceThis position requires sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations.
