The IT Disaster Recovery Engineer III is an individual contributor which applies a comprehensive knowledge of IT system disaster recovery and system capacity planning to help grow and mature the Disaster Recovery program. They apply an experienced awareness and knowledge of industry wide business continuity and disaster recovery methodologies to play a key role in creation, enhancement, and maturation of disaster recovery policies and procedures. The IT Disaster Recovery Engineer III collaborates with technologists, IT support staff and other professionals to integrate disaster recovery solutions. They will supply the technical needs for meeting Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO). This role provides technical training to selected members of disaster recovery teams in their respective roles and responsibilities associated to using the developed strategies and plans. The IT Disaster Recovery Engineer III will also assist in disaster response/crisis management activities at the time of an actual disaster.
Responsibilities:
- 30% - Apply advanced knowledge of DR systems, methodologies, and technologies to collaborate with IT technical staff to ensure that DR solutions are accurate, complete, and tested as part of the regular operational life cycle.
- 20% - Provide solutions to difficult and complex problems that arise to ensure technical recovery/failover procedures and processes meet organizational goals and requirements. Coach, advise, and participate in the execution of these procedures and processes to internal technical staff members or third-party service providers.
- 15% - Guide and advise applications’ support leads and technical infrastructure engineers to ensure DR capabilities are current, effective, and efficient.
- 15% - Manage and individually contribute to projects by advising on technical aspects of recovery procedures and processes of critical IT applications and functions, which support the organization’s critical business processes.
- 10% - Assist in the development, enhancement, and execution of future DR processes and procedures to advance the maturity of the DR program, along with the design of the technical run books supporting the IT Disaster Recovery plan.
- 10% - Coach and review employees within the IT Technology Services division to develop and support automated tracking of capacity capabilities for DR systems.
Required Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related fields of study.
Required Relevant Experience:
- 5-8 years
Required Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
- Advanced Knowledge of disaster recovery and business continuity solutions, high availability architectures, servers, and mainframe architectures.
- Wide breadth of technical familiarity including hardware, applications, middleware, use of co-locations, cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, etc.)
- Expert knowledge of design, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of servers.
- Experience with networking, backup tools and IT network principles.
- Cyber Security understanding and core knowledge.
- Require excellent oral and written communication skills to convey plans, exercises, and activities.
- Familiarity with business continuity program life cycle plans and source deliverables (e.g., risk assessments, bias, continuity planning) is essential.
- Ability to interact with multiple levels of leadership as well as various IT and business professionals.
- Prior experience with IT disaster recovery tests/exercises, for both tabletop and live/functional recovery exercises.
- Familiarity with executing this role under the direction of DR industry best practices and governance requirements.
- Experience with the creation and/or assembly of disaster recovery plans for applications and infrastructure components.
- Understanding of Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Audit requirements as they pertain to disaster recovery documents, policies, and procedures.
- Experience managing complex projects, processes, and procedures.
- Ability to provide solutions to difficult and complex problems.
- Comfortable with working independently and contributing with limited supervision.
- Experience with coaching, reviewing, and delegating work to other teams or lower-level professionals.
- Hands on experience with documentation, MS Office Suite, and diagramming/collaboration tools such as Visio and/or Lucid.
Desired Education, Experience, Knowledge, Abilities, Skills:
- Working on Certified Disaster Recovery Engineer (CDRE) certification, or equivalent.
- Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, Google, etc.)
- Experience with NIST cybersecurity standards, guidelines, and practices
- ITIL Foundation certification and/or applying methodologies.
- Lean Six Sigma certification and/or applying methodologies.
