Our client or the "Company" is a privately owned construction services business with headquarters located in Traverse City and between $20M-$50M in revenue across multiple sites.


We are searching for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the accounting and finance activities across the business, while working alongside the President to drive process improvement and develop strategic financial planning. This role involves maintaining thorough and precise financial records and collaborating with the President, Controller, and Management in overseeing daily business and financial operations.


You will:

  • Lead all finance and accounting in the Company, including FP&A, treasury, process improvement, risk management, strategic planning, organizational development, HR, IT, and special projects.
  • Establish a crucial partnership with the President to strengthen systems, drive growth, and boost profitability.
  • Conduct in-depth performance and risk analyses to develop strategic planning initiatives.
  • Support and enhance the organizational development of the Company.
  • Lead the local accounting team to ensure complete monthly financial statements and accuracy according to GAAP while nurturing the development of accounting and administrative professionals.
  • Produce timely, accurate financial reports and maintain robust accounting records, controls, and budgets. These measures mitigate risks, enhance financial accuracy, ensure GAAP compliance, and include monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.
  • Manage all accounting and finance functions, including general ledger management, job costing, pricing, fixed assets, purchasing, inventory control, risk management and insurance, and oversight of accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and benefits.
  • Provide support for cash management and meet the business's working capital / banking needs.
  • Develop 13-week cash flow forecasting tool.
  • Implement a capital expenditure and repairs & maintenance plan.
  • Enhance the current accounting and finance ERP system by further utilizing its capabilities.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Engage in projects related to customer acquisitions, performance enhancements, strategic initiatives, and advanced financial analysis to support the President and Management team, as needed.
  • Collaborate with HR to review and execute contracts with various partners and vendors, such as benefit brokers, HRIS and finance platforms, liability, and insurance providers.
  • Manage outside resources and consultants, including audit and tax.


Beyond technical skills, the CFO will demonstrate passion for the business and as a big-picture thinker who takes initiative, enjoys variety, and likes to find better ways to do things.
