Role Description

We are seeking a full-time mid-level Associate Attorney with three to six years of experience in Trusts and Estates and tax-related matters. The ideal candidate will be comfortable communicating directly with clients and other advisors and will work closely with the partners on various trust and estate matters, including:

  • Creating complex, tax-advantaged estate plans for individuals and closely-held businesses.
  • Drafting essential estate planning documents, such as wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, and advance directives.
  • Developing asset protection and wealth preservation strategies in collaboration with attorneys in other jurisdictions.
  • Preparation of estate and gift tax returns and schedules in conjunction with other advisors and valuation specialists.
  • Assisting with probate and administration proceedings and filing of estate and trust accountings.
  • Drafting shareholder agreements and operating agreements in connection with succession and estate planning.
  • Planning for non-resident US citizens and developing strategies for assets located in foreign jurisdictions.
  • Assisting clients and tax preparers with income tax planning for estates and trusts.


Qualifications

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school. An LL.M. (or credits towards an LL.M.) in taxation is a plus.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar and licensed to practice law in New York State. Additional admissions to the NJ and/or FL Bar are preferable but not required.
  • Three to five years of experience as a Trusts and Estates attorney with a solid understanding of estate and gift taxation.
  • Ability to draft tax-advantaged and sophisticated wills and trusts for substantial clients.
  • Committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards while producing an excellent work product.
  • Exceptional verbal and writing skills with the ability to present complex legal strategies to clients.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Must be able to self-manage tasks and responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with Interactive Legal Systems (ILS), CLIO, ATX, LexisNexis, and Excel is a plus.
