Automotive Calibration Engineer

We have a position for an is looking for an experienced MATLAB Simulink software developer and calibration engineer to assist with various phases of control system development. In this role, the engineer will interact with engine test cells, prototype vehicles and test benches to troubleshoot issues and calibrate features. This role collaborates with other teams.

Job Location: Local to Columbus, IN area and capable to travel into building depending on project needs, approximately 2 days in the office weekly.

What you will be doing:

  • Featured based calibration tuning for datalinks.
  • Diagnostic related troubleshooting to support OBD.
  • Documented results from Manual Test Procedures for datalink communication.
  • Root cause analysis for On-highway features.
  • Supporting cross-functional teams to address On-highway related issues as necessary
  • Consolidate quarterly releases from different functional teams and determine application specific calibration release content for US 2024 engine programs
  • Maintain quarterly integrity release content, DCR/Build tracking, fault masking tables for calibration releases, master component lists, etc.
  • Determine changes needed in MSNR template, Datatype Configuration, TIS Configurations, OBD template based on release dependencies, communicate need for revised versions to appropriate teams and integrate compatible versions into application software build as required.
  • Prepare material for calibration design reviews, including software components phase status, keep track of coded issues from each review, follow up with corresponding teams to resolve/close their respective issues.
  • Create design review correspondence in RMS database, populate with design review material, agenda, key attendees, codes issues, action items. This information is used to create calibration release requests and submit CTRs.
  • Create prototype build request tasks in integrity for software integration team and make them available to requesters for testing as needed
  • Represent app. team in various quarterly team-specific release review forums
  • Support weekly calibration integration meetings, field test data meetings, and other controls specific issue meetings
  • Troubleshoot field issues and validate CRs on bench or field test trucks and report results
  • Maintain screen file for field test and engineering truck testing / releases.
  • Perform bench testing after successful integration of software build before handing off the calibration for quick check / regression tests.
  • Support overlay interfacing for calibration development. This involves talking to tuners and ensuring appropriate submission of overlays in calibration development tool.
  • Lead issue resolution with sister teams for common issues across platforms and programs.

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in the following areas:

  • Electronics OR controls background
  • Calibration
  • Excel data analysis
  • MATLAB Simulink and Simulink simulation
  • Engineering tools (Calterm, Canape)
  • Datalinks-CAN 1939
  • Good communicator - written and verbal
  • Great collaborator

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines.
  • Fundamental understanding of the internal combustion engines and aftertreatment systems.
  • On the job engine testing, vehicle, or test cell experience with familiarity of data acquisition and instrumentation.
  • Experience in communicating and presenting technical content with external customers preferred.
  • Experience with different data processing tools for complex or large data sets (Matlab, concerto, excel, or similar).
  • Good understanding & experience with Datalink protocols such as J1939 and CANC communication networks
  • Ability to collect and analyze CAN Trace files
  • Working knowledge of CANalyzer or any similar data acquisition tools (Calterm, etc,.)
  • Experience with MATLAB Simulink, MS-Office is preferred
  • Awareness and knowledge of Cummins internal tools such as C2ST, Integrity, Windchill will be a plus for this role
  • Works well with customers and coordinates with internal teams
