Position Summary:  This position is a key member of the clinical care team at The Center for Neurology, Headache & Integrative Medicine, providing first contact with the patient to prepare for a comprehensive screening, examination and treatment by a provider. This position requires the ability to effectively and efficiently gather clinical information from the patient, multi-task without error and have the ability to respond appropriately to a medical emergency.


Essential Job Functions:  

 

Functions

·        Assists in the screening of patients presenting for a medical evaluation by a Provider by appointment

·        Responsible for taking vital signs, weight, height, calculate BMI

·        Responsible for obtaining chief complaint/history, allergies, current medications

·        Responsible for medical triage regarding patient present illness and complaints

·        Documentation into patient's medical record the information obtained and place patient into examination room for evaluation by Provider.

·        Assists Provider in examination. Carries out Provider orders for onsite patient care not limited to medication review/refills.

·        Assist and/or execute treatment and procedures

·        Maintains adequate supplies in examination rooms, cleaning and setting up rooms between patients and at the end of the day. Monitors the level of medical/patient care supplies and alerts, by established protocol

·        Prepares and processes instruments for sterilization using steam sterilization autoclave on site. Monitors and maintains autoclave functions by following guidelines for cleaning and biological monitoring with documentation into logs provided.

·        Places telephone calls to patients and/or outside facilities as directed by Provider to relay instructions for care, orders, follow up instructions.

·        Receives telephone calls related to patient care. Uses established triage procedures/protocols to manage messages. 

·        Prepares proper medical protocol for in office procedures

·        Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned


Additional Job Functions:

·        Execute work on assigned tasks including updating EHR records.

·        Medical records accuracy and documentation review.

·        Remaining OSHA and HIPAA compliant.

·        Understanding and proper execution of patient Personal Health Information updates.

·  Provide support to practice staff as appropriate


Special Knowledge, Qualifications and Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a position that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training (including clinical rotation) may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. 
  • LPN or LVN license, BLS Certification and Phlebotomy knowledge and skills required.
  • Neurology experience preferred
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information
  • Must communicate logically and clearly both orally and in writing
