Job Description

Stamford Health's HIV Clinic is seeking an experienced Licensed Practical Nurse to work in a part-time, 30 hour per week capacity This part-time position offers full-time benefits. Stamford Health has served the community since the early 1980's to deliver quality primary care to HIV positive individuals. Our patients come from various backgrounds which may present educational, language and cultural challenges. We partner with local organizations including the Ryan White program administered by Stamford CARES, Family Centers and the Stamford Health Department to offer medical and social support to individuals living with HIV. We are grateful that treatment and prevention of HIV has evolved so that we can help to keep our community healthy.

Our outpatient HIV clinic is in a freestanding setting where a congenial and comfortable working environment is provided. Our exam rooms are clean, spacious and well equipped. No weekend work or call is expected. Ample free parking is available on site.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and manages patient care according to each patient's needs.
  • Escorts patients to examination room. Restocks and prepares exam room for next patient.
  • Interviews patients and records their medical and surgical history, current medications, allergies, family and social history.
  • Obtains and documents patient vital signs, including pulse, blood pressure, temperature, respiration and pulse oximetry. Reports abnormalities to Provider.
  • Reviews medical charts for patient visits to other Providers or radiographic and laboratory results, communicates these to Provider.
  • Communicates with patients and their families via telephone encounters.
  • Communicates with pharmacies to document immunizations and update medication records
  • Manages referrals to other specialists
  • Communicates with partner organizations such as Stamford Cares, Stamford Health Department
  • Prepares specimens for lab courier.
  • Inventories therapeutic injections into EMR
  • Prepares and administers injections
  • Assists with administrative tasks (EMR, faxing, scanning, e.g.)

Enters data in Careware to document laboratory results and encounters

Qualifications

  • Completion of state approved training program
  • LPN license
  • BLS certification
  • 1-2 years recent nursing experience
  • Compassion, patience, kindness and empathy

  • Leadership qualities
  • Stamina and physical endurance
