Senior Mechanical Engineer - Plant

Starpath’s Processing Plant team is on the forefront of a new technological field: creating industrial-scale amounts of useful things from the raw stuff we find in space. Engineers at Starpath own hardware from requirements definition all the way through prototyping, production, and operation on the Lunar surface. In this role on the Plant team, you will be responsible for subsystems and components required to convert Lunar-derived materials into rocket propellant. You will play a key part in creating a Lunar propellant production machine, which will help lay the groundwork for humanity’s expansion into outer space.


Responsibilities

  • Own architectures, systems, subsystems, and components from requirements to deployment as a Responsible Engineer on the Plant team
  • Perform rapid test iterations on your hardware as-required
  • Validate subsystems & components via testing in simulated launch/Lunar environments
  • Interface with adjacent teams to cohesively integrate hardware with supporting subsystems
  • Identify & action high-level improvements to program operation and direction
  • Anticipate technology development and apply it to the Plant to accelerate Starpath’s mission


Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a professional engineering environment
  • Experience with CAD, engineering analysis, and hands-on creation of hardware
  • High levels of personal agency & productivity
  • A desire to make humans a multi-planet species


Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-graduate degree(s) in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar
  • 15+ years of experience in engineering, including both leadership and individual contributor roles
  • A track record of successfully creating hardware to solve hard problems
  • Experience with design of hardware for space applications
  • Experience with mechatronics, process design, thermal analysis, and/or mass production
  • A strong desire to make humans a multi-planet species


Position Details

  • Hiring for this position at Senior/Principal levels
  • Location: Los Angeles - Hawthorne
  • Salary base rate is $120k-$180k/yr, plus equity package; compensation scales with candidate experience
  • PTO & health/dental/vision coverage included
