Infrastructure Project Manager

Montpelier, United States My3Tech Full time

Hello,

Position: Infrastructure Project Manager with #AgencyofDigitalServices

#remote

Long-term Contract

At present, the Client supports multiple domains as a legacy architecture established prior to the creation of ADS. Maintaining these domains consumes resources that could be more effectively allocated to addressing the Client’s Mission, and creates unnecessary complexity within the Client’s environment, limiting the ability to efficiently distribute software applications and security patches in addition to inhibiting users’ mobility between office buildings and access to services within other Agencies.

In response, the Client has authorized a project to consolidate the domains into a single domain, VSMS. Doing so will provide the following benefits:

1. Enhanced Security Management: Centralizing the Active Directory environment administration allows for more streamlined and consistent security management practices.

2. Unified Identity and Access Management (IAM): A consolidated AD environment simplifies identity and access management processes.

3. Simplified Authentication and Single Sign-On (SSO): Centralizing AD enables the implementation of single sign-on solutions that allow users to access multiple services and resources with a single set of credentials.

4. Consolidated Audit and Compliance: Monitoring and reporting on user activities, access attempts, and changes become more straightforward when all the data is consolidated in one place. This aids in meeting regulatory requirements and internal security policies.

5. Efficient Resource Management: Reducing the number of separate AD environments reduces administrative overhead and can lead to cost savings in terms of infrastructure, licensing, and maintenance.

6. Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: Data backup and recovery processes can be standardized and managed centrally, ensuring that in case of a failure, the organization can recover its critical identity and access data efficiently.

7. Scalability and Agility: A consolidated AD environment is generally more scalable and adaptable to changing organizational needs.

8. Reduced Complexity: Consolidating forests and domains simplifies administration and maintenance tasks, leading to operational efficiency.

9. Hybrid Cloud Strategy: This approach allows seamless integration and authentication between on-premises and cloud resources, ensuring secure and efficient access for users across the entire technology landscape.

10. Improved User Experience: A unified AD environment enhances user experience by providing consistent access to resources, regardless of whether they are hosted on-premises or in the cloud. This can contribute to increased user productivity and satisfaction.

Existing Technology Environment:

The Agency of Digital Services supports 10 separate Active Directory (AD) login forests (source domains) and 1 resource forest (VSMS).

Scopes of Work for Consolidation:

  • File Services
  • Print Services
  • IP Address Management & #ActiveDirectory Services
  • User Migration
  • End User Device Migration
  • Application Migration

REQUIREMENTS:

For this particular request, knowledge requirements include:

  • Conversational knowledge of logical network infrastructure concepts, including domain controllers, DNS, Active Directory, and network segmentation.
  • Conversational knowledge of how domains are structured and the technical implications of consolidating multiple domains into a single, cohesive environment.

For this particular request, Functional requirements include:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Vision
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully facilitating a similar project

PM Approach

The individual will serve as a “Project Manager” who will:

(i) Be a senior employee within Contractor’s organization, with the information, authority and resources available to properly discharge the responsibilities required hereunder;

(ii) Serve as primary point of contact and the single-point of accountability and responsibility for all Contract related questions and issues and the provision of Services by Contractor;

(iii) Have day-to-day responsibility for, and authority to manage, State customer satisfaction; and

(iv) Devote efforts to managing and coordinating the Services.

(v) Follow project management methodologies that are consistent with the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (#PMBOK) Guide,

(vi) Be responsible for all tasks necessary to manage, oversee, and ensure success of the project. These tasks include documenting requirements, developing and updating project plans, scheduling meetings, developing and publishing status reports, addressing project issues, risks, and change orders, and preparing presentations for the State.

Project Deliverables:

The selected Candidate shall be responsible for project deliverables using Microsoft Office products in v2007 or newer (Word, Excel, Project, Visio, etc.), and Adobe PDF, or other formats acceptable to the Client.
