COPYWRITER
FULL-TIME
*SEE BELOW ON HOW TO APPLY*
Farmers Conservation Alliance (FCA) is a non-profit organization that operates at the intersection of agriculture, water, and energy. We are excited to hire a Copywriter to help share the stories of our projects and partners. An ideal candidate would excel in writing about rural communities, irrigation modernization projects, and renewable energy opportunities. They would enjoy working with team members to create compelling narratives that showcase project benefits, drive engagement, and communicate solutions that benefit both agriculture and the environment.
ABOUT US
Our staff of 45 strategy consultants, funding specialists, technical professionals, and public policy experts believe that everyone can win – farmers, rivers, and communities. We formed 15 years ago to successfully bring an innovative fish screen technology to market. This farmer-developed technology, now known as the Farmers Screen, helps to keep fish and debris in rivers and out of water supplies.
Since that time, our work has expanded to include the Irrigation Modernization Program to help farmers and ranchers modernize all aspects of their water delivery systems. Staff work with water users, agencies, and organizations to design, finance, and implement large-scale solutions and technologies that improve water delivery systems, reduce operation and maintenance costs, and generate renewable energy.
Our headquarters in Hood River, Oregon, inspires staff in both their professional and personal lives. Hood River’s abundant apple, pear, and cherry orchards and salmon-bearing streams provide daily context for our work. The Columbia River Gorge and nearby Mt. Hood provide endless opportunities for hiking, paddling, cycling, skiing, and wind sports. Hood River’s one-hour commute to Portland provides staff with easy access to a regional hub.
SO THAT’S US. NOW ABOUT THE WORK
The Copywriter will work closely with the Executive Director, communications team, and program staff to effectively communicate about our programs across a variety of channels. They will build on the communications team’s creative concepts to tell compelling stories that resonate with a broad range of technical, community, funding and regulatory audiences.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Draft email, web, social media, and print copy that reflects overarching stories, themes, and campaigns
• Review and edit copy for grammar, accuracy, and consistency with our brand, voice, and style

• Coordinate with the Communications team to ensure cohesive messaging across channels and platforms
• Review and edit materials developed by staff and contractors to ensure clear communications across our programs
• Create compelling content that simplifies technical concepts for a broad range of audiences
• Ensure written materials are clear, concise, and persuasive
A QUALIFIED CANDIDATE WOULD HAVE
• 5+ years’ experience in copywriting, content creation, or similar roles
• A solid understanding of digital experiences and how to write for different channels
• Experience initiating projects and managing them through completion
• An ability to turn technical concepts into creative, compelling, and relatable content that drives conversations
• A strong attention to detail within a broader creative context
• Comfort working with short deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• The ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
• Skill at making complex stories easy, approachable, and compelling
• An ability to proactively solve problems
• Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Creative Suite
• Experience in SEO and analytics programs (preferred but not required)
