Editorial Director Job Description

St. Joseph's University, New York is seeking a highly skilled Editorial Director to lead its marketing and communications team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building engaging content for a diversified internal and external audience on various media platforms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set the editorial tone, direction, and execution for all St. Joseph's marketing materials, including print and digital communications, SJNY Magazine, the President's Report, and the University's website.
  • Collect, generate, edit, and drive content across multiple platforms, including recruitment materials, advertising, social media, and the University's website and magazine news platform.
  • Manage the editorial team for content development, marketing copywriting, proofreading, interns, and freelancers (as needed).
  • Write, edit, and provide final review on all print and digital projects, including publications, online news stories, and profiles.
  • Work with key stakeholders across the Long Island and Brooklyn campuses to establish voices and identities for various academic units and recruitment communications.
  • Direct video, copy, and ancillary support scheduling for print and digital communications.
  • Lead weekly content meetings with marketing and communications staff members.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated editorial experience of at least 7 years; 3 years working in a marketing or related role.
  • Exceptional writing, copyediting, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage an editorial team and lead editorial meetings.
  • A proven innovative leader.
  • A strong manager of creative employees.
  • Professional acumen to develop relationships with various types and levels of leaders and individuals.
  • An ability to clearly develop and articulate a strategic vision.
  • Proven experience working in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle the pressures of aggressive deadlines.
  • Exceptional organizational, quality-focused project management skills.
  • Mastery of the new media and digital marketplace.
