Job Description:

Theoris Services is assisting our client in their search for a Sr. Database Administrator to add to their growing team. Our client is seeking an individual who will perform database maintenance tasks such as installation, patching, and upgrades by following vendor documentation or internal checklists. They will also create or modify databases and database objects by following established checklists. They will assist in ensuring adequate database performance and capacity for assigned databases. The Sr. Database Administrator will participate in the design of databases and other database infrastructure components according to the application requirements following industry best practices, company policies, and requirements. The Sr. Database Administrator will need to be able to take on-call rotations independently and resolve issues and will assist in migrations and support of databases both on premise and within AWS.


Responsibilities:

Database Support 40%

  • Provide dedicated database support to the database environments, including capacity, performance and efficiency of the environments (dev and prod):
  • Create, maintain and upgrade database structures
  • Assist developers with data and database problems
  • Help ensure availability and performance of database environments
  • Complete all documentation within compliance and policy standards


Database and Project Support 20%

  • Provide database support along with more senior data administration staff, to the production environment by maintaining data structures, system libraries and files, assisting in database project testing and maintenance (database refreshes, configuration and other changes to better suit application needs), the performance and efficiency of the production environments:
  • Create, maintain and upgrade production database structures
  • Assist developers, Infrastructure and vendor support with database problems
  • Help ensure availability and performance of production database environments
  • Serve in on-call rotation within 3 months in role


Maintain DBMS 25%

  • Maintain the Database Management System software for assigned database platform:
  • Analyze impact of new software releases or fixes
  • Apply vendor provided software fixes
  • Install new releases, upgrades or fix packs of database software


Monitor database capacity and performance 10%

  • Ensure that existing monitoring and capacity reports execute as scheduled
  • Review reports for exceptions and notify appropriate senior team members of management of exception occurrences.
  • Follow up to ensure appropriate action is taken for exceptions


Other 5%

  • Assist team leader and manager with special assignments as needed. Examples are not limited to but may include the following:
  • Gather data and information for meetings, audits, budget and other
  • Create reports, spreadsheets or narratives to support technical or administrative processes


Requirements:

  • Must be a US citizen
  • 5+ years of experience with Redhat Linux (7+)
  • 3+ years with Oracle 19c
  • Experience moving from on-prem to AWS
