The System Administrator I:

  • Maintains information systems and related hardware and software
  • Monitors information system availability, integrity, and performance
  • Ensures that information system operation and maintenance and related policies and procedures adhere to the organization’s technological vision
  • Provides effective and efficient Tier 3 support to end users with varying technical skill levels
  • Reports to the IT Director


Functions:

System Administrator I functions can be grouped as follows:

Operations and maintenance

  • Monitor WAN, LAN, and WLAN connection quality and resolve connectivity issues
  • Monitor service health and related issue resolution processes
  • Monitor cellular data usage and pre-emptively identify data overages
  • Manage and maintain identity management platforms
  • Audit equipment inventory periodically
  • Audit process documentation and update as needed
  • Perform data and/or configuration backup operations
  • Perform hardware firmware upgrades
  • Perform operating system and other software upgrades
  • Assist with recovery from hardware or software failures
  • Assist with security incident review and resolution


Support:

  • Work with helpdesk to identify systemic issues
  • Resolve or escalate systemic issues; identify areas for improvement
  • Communicate with internal users and external resources during issue resolution
  • Provide Tier 3 end-user support as required


Knowledge and skills:

Shift Digital is willing to train the right candidate to continually expand and enhance his or her skill set. The minimum requirements for a System Administrator I are:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a technical major or equivalent, proven experience
  • One year of system administration experience or three years of helpdesk experience


Systems experience:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft operating systems for clients and servers
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 administration and applications
  • Familiarity with network protocols and configuration best practices
  • Familiarity with Cisco Meraki or equivalent network hardware administration
  • Familiarity with Ring Central or equivalent VOIP system administration
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or equivalent CRM administration


Problem solving and decision making:

  • Strong ability to troubleshoot, isolate, and resolve errors and issues
  • Ability to analyze data and determine best path to issue resolution
  • Ability to make data-based decisions and act decisively under pressure
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively


Communication:

  • Strong ability to interpret technical information and discuss it clearly and effectively
  • Excellent attention to detail in written communication


Requirements

In general, the System Administrator I will work regular business hours in a casual office environment. A fully qualified candidate, with reasonable accommodation, will be able to:

  • Work at HQ three days per week and remotely two days per week
  • Work at a desk in an open office environment for long periods of time
  • Work in confined environments for short periods of time
  • Work nights or weekends a few hours per month, when required
  • Lift 30 pounds occasionally
  • Travel occasionally to other office locations
