Head of Engineering

Role Overview:

Dune Security is seeking a visionary and strategic Head of Engineering to lead our dynamic engineering team, which is the driving force behind Dune Security’s groundbreaking solutions. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for shaping the technical direction of the company, driving innovation, and ensuring that our engineering practices and infrastructure can scale to meet the demands of a rapidly growing customer base. You will oversee the development and maintenance of robust, scalable systems that underpin our AI-powered platform, ensuring that we stay ahead of the curve in the fast-evolving cybersecurity landscape. What You’ll Do:

• Technical Leadership: Define and execute the engineering strategy in alignment with Dune Security’s overall vision and business goals. Lead the development of innovative technologies that provide a competitive edge in the cybersecurity market.
• Team Building and Management: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence, ensuring the team is motivated and aligned with the company’s objectives.
• Scalable Architecture: Oversee the design and implementation of scalable, reliable, and secure systems that support our AI-powered solutions. Ensure our technology stack is robust, adaptable, and capable of handling the demands of a growing enterprise.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product management, design, and other departments to ensure that engineering efforts are aligned with business priorities and that products are delivered on time and to specification.
• Process Optimization: Implement and refine engineering processes, tools, and methodologies that enhance productivity, code quality, and delivery speed. Ensure adherence to best practices in software development, DevOps, and quality assurance.
• Innovation and R&D: Drive research and development initiatives to explore new technologies, tools, and methodologies that can advance Dune Security’s mission. Stay ahead of industry trends and ensure the company remains a leader in cybersecurity innovation.
• Budget Management: Manage the engineering budget effectively, ensuring that resources are allocated appropriately and that the team has the tools and infrastructure needed to succeed.
• Stakeholder Communication: Communicate technical decisions, challenges, and strategies to the executive team, investors, and other stakeholders. Provide clear and regular updates on the progress and direction of engineering projects.

What You’ll Bring:

• Experience: 8+ years of engineering experience, with at least 4 years in a senior leadership role (e.g., Head of Engineering, Director of Engineering, or CTO) at a high-growth startup or technology company.
• Technical Expertise: You bring deep experience in developing web-based platforms and SaaS solutions for enterprise clients, with a strong focus on cloud architecture, platforms, microservices, distributed architecture, and scalable systems—skills that are essential for success in this role. A security-first mindset is crucial, as we require someone who can integrate security practices into every stage of the development lifecycle, embodying a true DevSecOps approach. Our tech stack leverages a range of AWS services, including EC2 for scalable compute capacity, Lambda for serverless computing, API Gateway for managing APIs, DocumentDB for document database services, and S3 & CloudFront for storage and content delivery. We also utilize SageMaker for machine learning, Kafka for real-time data streaming, Route 53 for DNS services, and Secrets Manager for secure access management. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and Go is essential, alongside experience with DevOps tools like Docker and GitLab to support efficient and secure development and deployment processes.
• Frontend Expertise: Familiarity with frontend technologies, particularly in building and leading teams that utilize React, Material UI, and other modern frontend frameworks. A strong understanding of frontend performance optimization, cross-browser compatibility, and responsive design is essential.
• Data Visualization Experience: Experience in integrating and optimizing data visualization components within frontend applications, using libraries such as Recharts or D3.js.
• Leadership Skills: Proven track record of building and leading high-performing engineering teams. Strong people management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
• Strategic Vision: Ability to think strategically and translate business goals into a comprehensive technical strategy. Experience in driving innovation and leading complex projects from concept to completion.
• Collaboration: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and with senior leadership.
• Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred. A master’s degree in Computer Science is a plus.
• Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities. A hands-on approach with a willingness to dive into technical details when necessary.

Compensation:

We offer a highly competitive compensation package that includes:

• Base Salary: A minimum starting salary of $140,000, with the potential for a higher amount based on experience and qualifications.
• Equity: Significant equity compensation, allowing you to have a meaningful stake in the company’s future success.

Additional Details:

• Location: NYC. Candidates must reside within a commutable distance of our Soho, Manhattan office.
