Mechanical And Electrical Engineering Department ManagerThe Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking candidates for the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Department manager reporting to the MFC Engineering Division Director. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Materials and Fuels Complex with every Friday off.INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for DOE-NE, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstration capability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment. MFC hosts a unique combination of personnel, facilities, and infrastructure, and offers the ability to perform research and development of nuclear fuels from fuel design, development, and fabrication through post irradiation analysis.The department manager is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to the MFC Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Department that supports MFC facilities and their operation. Responsible for establishing engineering requirements and verify that the engineering design and end product meet the functional and operational requirements. Apply Engineering Management System procedures per INL Conduct of Engineering process with integration of INL Engineering standards. Represent INL with external entities to promote engineering excellence and best practices. Manage the budget provided for training, professional development, equipment and purchases for the success of the organization. Solve complex problems and resolve diverse issues. Responsible for human capital activities across the department.Responsibilities:Manage the activities of a department or a discipline through subordinate supervisors and/or professionals.Provide guidance to subordinates within the latitude of established company policies.Responsible for the effective operation of activities of major significance to the organization.Decisions impact others in the immediate team and influences methods and techniques.Execute financials, business planning, organizational priorities, and workforce planning. Ensure that budgets, schedules, and performance standards are realistically set and attained.Typically manage employees who perform similar tasks. May manage supervisors, exempt, and non-exempt staff.Receive objective based assignments and determine resources to meet schedules and goals.Responsible for single function, location, and/or technical discipline.Recommend changes to policies and establishes procedures that affect department or multiple disciplines.Participate in the development of overall objectives and long-term goals of the department and possibly the division.Interact frequently with subordinate supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer group professionals, involving matters between sections and multiple units.Partner with key contacts outside own area of expertise and other external stakeholders.Communicate and present results and recommendations across discipline.Third level of management with human resource responsibilities. Typically, all work is performed through the management of others.Position typically reports to a direct report of a Director, Sr. Director, or Senior Leadership.Other duties as assigned.Minimum Requirements:Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Aerospace Engineering or closely related field from an ABET accredited institution.Minimum BS and 8 years of relevant experience or MS and 6 years relevant experience.Must be a US Citizen and have the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a DOE "L" clearance.Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrated leadership experience including staff development.Advanced degree in EngineeringProfessional Engineering licensePrevious experience with Department of Energy nuclear facilities and either commercial or naval nuclear experienceJob Information:The target pay range for this position is $153,733 - $231,971. The full pay range is $105,516- $269,052. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.Physical Requirements:While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required.
