The Plant Manager will play a pivotal role as a key leader at the Arway Long Grove Chicago facility and be a key member of the ALG operations team. This role will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to the Chicago plant including: people, production, quality, safety, and maintenance. This role will oversee the daily operations and site-specific strategic plan execution to ensure production goals are met in the most cost-effective manner, delivering expected financial results.


The ideal candidate for this position will be a dynamic and results-driven leader with strong operational expertise. RESPONSIBILITIES

Day-to-Day Production Leadership

  • Direct the overall activities of the Chicago plant to ensure customer orders are received, scheduled, produced, and shipped at the lowest possible cost meeting customers’ requirements and established quality standards.
  • Strategically oversee workforce management and staffing levels in collaboration with Chicago team leaders and Human Resources ensuring optimal operational efficiency and productivity required to meet demand.
  • Build optimized production schedules in collaboration with sales, customer service and the production team to ensure on-time completion to meet customer shipping requirements.
  • Take proactive steps to direct the resolution of operational, quality, and maintenance issues, ensuring efficient cost management and preventing operational delays.
  • Champion a site-wide continuous improvement mindset, continually evaluating current and future processes for opportunities for enhancement and operational cost savings.
  • Collaborate and maintain regular communication with the Buffalo Grove plant and cross-functional ALG team.


Safety, Quality & Food Safety

  • Drive a culture of associate and food safety through employee engagement and involvement.
  • Lead the development of a plant safety team to drive site-wide initiatives encouraging open communication and feedback and providing recognition and rewards for achievements.
  • Ensure food safety and security programs are followed to assess potential food safety and security risks.
  • Verify food safety and security preventive measures are being implemented and are routinely audited for performance.
  • Responsible for food safety, promoting proper GMPs, company procedures and regulatory requirements.


Operations Strategy & Excellence

  • Lead, develop and implement operational policies, strategies, and procedures focusing on efficiency, quality, safety, cost-effectiveness, continuous improvement aligned with ALG annual plan.
  • Develop and oversee operating strategies, annual financial plans, capital budgets, and personnel resource plans for the Chicago plant.
  • Establish, monitor and analyze KPI’s to use data to drive decisions and identify areas of improvement and implement effective solutions.
  • Promote lean manufacturing and six sigma principles across the plant fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Recommend cost controls and other improvements to production processes to improve profitability of operations.


People Leadership

  • Drive a performance-based, goal-oriented culture.
  • Evaluate the site organizational structure and partner with VP of Operations to design the optimal structure to support the future growth of the organization.
  • Drive a culture of transparency and employee engagement through direct involvement in positive employee relations activities.
  • Create an empowered culture to ensure that the team understands the goals and objectives of the business and that they have the resources and leadership support to accomplish them.
  • Foster an environment which ensures and provides for open and healthy communications.
  • Lead the team through coaching and mentorship.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations, discipline and performance improvement plans as needed in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Collaborate with the Arway team to develop training programs in support of continuous learning, employee development, and succession planning.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree preferably in engineering, operations management, or business
  • 5+ years of experience in a management role in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, preferably within the food industry
  • 3+ years proven experience with a coaching and mentoring leadership style
  • Strong working knowledge of budgets and P&L statements
  • Proven data-driven decision making and management style
  • Proficiency using a computer and with Microsoft Office suite
  • Lean/Sigma/TPM experience

This position will be required to be onsite at our offices 5 days per week in Chicago located at 3425 N Kimball Ave.
