Role: Product Development Manager


This key role is focused on managing all stages of the product development process from concept through launch across all product categories, ensuring that products are developed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. In summary, this position reports into the VP of Product and is responsible for leading the cross-functional team through the product development process, overseeing sampling processes, managing communication with suppliers, and ensuring the seamless execution through purchase order hand off. This role combines the need for intensive understanding of process, product, cost engineering, and the ability to build strong internal cross functional relationships and external partnerships. The Product Development Manager should be an effective mentor with the ability to lead team members protecting strong company culture. 


Calendar:

  • Manage and maintain a comprehensive calendar of milestone events, both internal and external, ensuring effective coordination and timely execution of all development deliverables including but not limited to fabric, color, artwork and prototype development.
  • Lead weekly recurring cross-functional development meetings to track progress to milestone events, troubleshooting as needed to ensure TNA’s are protected.
  • Build tools such as development WIPs to project manage deliverables across various cross-functional team members.

Sample Management:

  • Handle all communication with suppliers as it relates to development from initial fabric development through TOP submits ensuring comments are released in a timely manner to protect TNA’s, effectively shifting team priorities as needed to maintain timing. 
  • Review and approve all garment testing reports, troubleshooting with suppliers and internal team to remedy any failures.
  • Set and track creative team overdevelopment ratios ensuring development efficiency while protecting research and development needs.
  • Manage physical sample racks and development libraries, monitoring sample check-outs, archiving and sample sale organization.

Cross-functional Team Management:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including design, production, merchandising and planning to ensure that products meet customer needs and align with company goals financially and environmentally.
  • Drive special projects, collaborations and task force initiatives as needed by organizing relevant stakeholders, defining and executing against deliverables and timelines. 
  • Experience working within sustainable fashion industry and strong network of material and garment suppliers that are GOTS certified globally



Role Requirements

  • 7-10 years of experience in apparel development exclusively in the fashion industry
  • Extensive knowledgeable in woven, knit and sweater fabrications and wash techniques and apparel construction with specific emphasis on full package import supplier relationships
  • A very well-organized professional with excellent planning skills with high prioritization ability working on multiple projects at the same time
  • Able to work under pressure maintaining attention to detail and accurate work in a fast paced and changing environment
  • A strong written and verbal ability to establish trustworthy and durable relationships with suppliers and colleagues
  • BFA or BA in Fashion Merchandising, Business, or related field or relevant industry experience
  • Passion for clean clothing movement with experience in sustainable fashion
