Job description:

A Lanterne Dx IHC Technician/Histotechnician is responsible for performing all necessary IHC, immunofluorescence (IF), in situ hybridization (ISH), and histology procedures related to projects including but not limited to grossing, trimming, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining of non-human and human samples. The IHC Technician/Histotechnician will also perform various tasks required for receiving, processing, preparing, and analyzing patient tissue specimens in accordance with relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements. The IHC Technician/ Histotechnician must demonstrate the ability to work independently.


Job duties:

Histology & Immunohistochemistry

  • Use appropriate equipment and instruments including microscopes, tissue processors, embedding centers, microtomes, stainers, autostainers, and other laboratory equipment for work requested.
  • Perform grossing, processing, tissue embedding (OCT, FFPE), and sectioning (OCT, FFPE).
  • Perform all aspects of slide staining including preparation of solutions, stains, and reagents.
  • Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the staining of IHC, IF, and ISH slides.
  • Perform microscopic QC checks of all slides stained in the laboratory prior to sending to pathologist for review (with oversight of General Supervisor and/or Senior Histotechnician).
  • Create IHC and IF protocols in collaboration with the science and lab team members.
  • Create and QC slide labels for IHC, IF, and ISH staining.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in conjunction with appropriate personnel including scientists, quality, operations management, or other technical support.

Equipment & Materials Inventory

  • Ensure proper functioning, maintenance, and cleanliness of all laboratory equipment and work areas, including proper documentation.
  • Perform ongoing equipment qualifications/validations inclusive of preparing documentation and completing test scripts.
  • Monitor inventory of supplies, equipment, and reagents, and requests replacements as needed.
  • Ensure all materials and reagents are stored at appropriate conditions and are not expired.
  • Assist in maintaining documentation in SDS binders and chemical inventory logs.
  • Assist in tracking equipment maintenance schedules (PMs) and NIST expirations.
  • Assist in tracking disposal of hazardous materials and notify appropriate team members when materials need to be disposed of and additional supplies needs to be ordered.

Quality & Compliance

  • Assist in maintaining and updating Lanterne Dx standard operating procedures (SOPS).
  • Assist in review of monthly lab maintenance and quality monitoring documentation.
  • Receive and respond as needed to lab temperature and power outage monitoring notifications.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including computerized documentation, in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Maintain OSHA and CAP compliance in the lab and notify lab management if gaps are identified.
  • Participate in quality activities including audits, non-conformances, CAPAs.
  • Regularly review and perform all job duties in accordance with Lanterne Dx SOPs.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist with the maintenance of project specific tools for tracking of work and/or samples.
  • Assist with project set up and task management within project management software.
  • Help in the creation and review of lab or project reports.
  • Accepts accountability and responsibility for actions and own behavior.
  • Organizes work for effective utilization of time.
  • Other duties, as assigned by manager.


Qualifications:

1) Associates degree with a minimum of zero to five (0 – 5) years’ experience.

2) Registered Histotechnologist (ASCP, HTL) or Histotechnician (ASCP, HT).

3) 1-2 years of immunohistochemistry experience and histology experience preferred.

4) Spatial ability to perceive three-dimensional and geometric relationships when cutting paraffin blocks and making embedding molds.

5) Finger dexterity to manipulate the micro-thin tissue sections and to mount onto microscope slides.

6) Color discrimination to verify diagnostic quality of staining processes in order that essential features of tissue sections can be properly defined.
