Position Overview:

A Fortune 500 Insurance provider is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Associate General Counsel with a specialization in healthcare & insurance regulatory affairs to join their legal team. This position will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with various healthcare and insurance regulations, including but not limited to HIPAA, ERISA, and GLB. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, providing legal counsel on a wide range of regulatory matters impacting the insurance industry.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal guidance and support on healthcare and insurance regulatory matters to internal stakeholders, including senior management, business units, and other legal teams.
  • Conduct thorough reviews and analysis of applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines related to healthcare and insurance, ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement compliance policies, procedures, and best practices to mitigate regulatory risks.
  • Advise on regulatory implications for new business initiatives, product development, and strategic partnerships within the insurance sector.
  • Oversee regulatory filings, disclosures, and reporting obligations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in compliance activities.
  • Stay abreast of emerging regulatory trends, legislative developments, and industry updates impacting the insurance landscape, providing proactive counsel and recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization in regulatory inquiries, audits, and investigations, liaising with external counsel and regulatory agencies as necessary.
  • Support corporate governance initiatives, including board presentations, regulatory training programs, and compliance monitoring activities.
  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, agreements, and other legal documents with a focus on regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned by senior management.


Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the state bar.
  • 5-10 years of progressive experience practicing law in the healthcare and insurance regulatory field, preferably within a reputable law firm or corporate legal department.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of healthcare regulations such as HIPAA, ERISA, GLB, and other relevant statutes governing the insurance industry.
  • Proven track record of providing strategic legal counsel and regulatory advice to clients or internal stakeholders in a complex regulatory environment.
