Associate General Counsel, Insurance Regulatory

YOUR ROLE

You will provide advice and counsel on a broad array of legal issues affecting Genworth’s insurance companies, with focus on its long term care insurance business. A core part of this role will include being a strategic advisor on Insurance Holding Company System Act and corporate insurance regulatory matters. You will work closely with and report to the General Counsel, Long-Term Care.

What you will be doing

Provide strategic advice and counsel to senior business, finance, legal and other colleagues on Insurance Holding Company System Act and corporate insurance regulatory mattersSupport contracting initiatives between insurance affiliate entities and with external partiesProvide support on a wide variety of issues affecting Genworth’s long-term care insurance business, including providing guidance in connection with new and existing insurance products, advertising and training materials review, complaint resolution, operational and infrastructure support, distribution, reinsurance, and contractual mattersWork closely with other members of Genworth’s Legal team, other teams across the organization (such as Sourcing, Compliance, Operations, Consumer Affairs, Reinsurance, Tax), business and support function leaders and external parties such as regulators, attorneys and reinsurance partnersProvide advice and counsel to internal clients on impact of new laws, regulations and caselawResponsible for identification of legal and regulatory risks and development of risk avoidance and risk mitigation strategies

What you bring

Required

JD degree from an accredited law schoolMinimum of 10 years of experience as legal counsel within a corporate legal department, state department of insurance or a quality law firm focused on insurance regulatory mattersExperience with Insurance Holding Company System Act and corporate insurance regulatory matters, preferably with responsibility for advising senior leadership and/or directing and overseeing the work of others on complicated, nuanced issues

Preferred

Experience with long term care insurance and the applicable legal/regulatory environmentExperience drafting contracts and providing strategic advice about contracting initiativesExperience with reinsurance transactions and contractingDemonstrated ability to learn and master new substantive topics quicklyOutstanding written and oral communications skillsTop-notch legal analytical skillsProactive, creative problem-solving skillsDemonstrated partnership with internal business clients with a solution-oriented focus on achieving business priorities and goalsStrong legal research and writing skillsAbility to simplify complex legal conceptsDemonstrated ability to work with minimal daily supervision, while also knowing when a matter requires escalationDemonstrated ability to proactively manage client/management expectationsAbility to balance several priorities within compressed timeframes: ease in working in fast-paced, team-oriented environmentDemonstrated ability to identify and assess risks and make recommendations regarding risk mitigationStrong organizational and time-management skills
