Plastics Manufacturing Engineer

The Plastics Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for enhancing and streamlining production processes in a plastics manufacturing setting, focusing on injection molding and extrusion fabrication. This role will involve developing production protocols, acquiring manufacturing equipment, and spearheading various improvement projects. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to support new product initiatives and address issues related to product quality.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize production areas, including workstations, equipment layouts, and material flow to enhance efficiency.
  • Provide technical support for production operations, new product development, and R&D projects, with a focus on process validation and manufacturability.
  • Serve as an expert in daily manufacturing operations, working to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Participate in risk analysis (FMEA) and design reviews as part of design control efforts.
  • Identify, evaluate, and procure new manufacturing equipment to support production needs.
  • Lead equipment qualification efforts to ensure compliance with industry standards and internal requirements.
  • Conduct time studies and develop cost models to support process optimization and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Develop detailed work instructions and provide training to production and technical staff.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing methodologies.
  • Evaluate product designs for ease of manufacturing and provide feedback to design teams.
  • Conduct investigations into defective products using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive measures.


Education, Skills, and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Preferred certifications include Six Sigma Green Belt or Lean Certification.
  • Proficiency with CAD software, such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with statistical software (e.g., Minitab, JMP, SPC for Excel) is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a manufacturing engineer or in a related role.
  • Extensive experience with injection molding and extrusion processes for thermoplastic and thermoset materials.
  • Preferred experience in equipment automation and data acquisition systems.
  • Background in the medical device or pharmaceutical industries is advantageous.
