Amylu Foods is seeking Safety Manager for both our Chicago plant and out sister plant at Milwaukee this person is responsible Leads the Company’s Safety function including developing, implementing, and leading all the Company’s safety programs, initiatives and activities necessary to comply with all OSHA and other regulatory authority standards and create and maintain a culture that embraces working safely. Ideally this role would be situated in Chicago with travel to Milwaukee once or twice a week. Responsibilities for the Safety Manager include the following:

  • Plans, develops, and implements all aspects of the Company’s safety programs, initiatives and activities for all locations. Objectives of such are to create a culture that embraces safety in order to reduce or eliminate work accidents, job injuries and illnesses, and financial losses.
  • Develops and refines recommended procedures and methods based on reports of incidents, accidents, and other data gathered from industry and agencies to improve safety and loss prevention
  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts all safety-related meetings.
  • Strategically plans, organizes, and delivers all safety-related training for the Company including LOTO, Hazcom and PIT.
  • Key member of the emergency response team. Responsible for developing incident objectives, managing all incident operations, application of resources, as well as responsibility for all persons involved that drives the overall action plan.
  • Proactively identifies unsafe conditions and unsafe acts/behaviors, develops appropriate organizational responses to them, and drives actions that will eliminate and prevent those acts or conditions and thereby reduces the risk of incident and/or injury.
  • Conducts incident investigations to identify root causes and implement appropriate corrective actions. Follows up on incident investigations (as appropriate) to assure objectives have been met and corrective actions implemented. Drives implementation of corrective actions to other work areas or facilities where similar hazards/behaviors may exist. Investigates and analyzes incident reports and complaints involving work‐related injuries and illness or incidents; prepares reports noting hazards, violations, and accidents; recommends measures to prevent recurrence
  • Conducts building and grounds surveys on periodic and regular basis to detect code violations, hazards, and incorrect work practices and procedures
  • Serves as a company representative/liaison to all outside organizations and regulatory authorities such as OSHA, fire departments, emergency response personnel, various environmental agencies, security and law enforcement, and other teams to assure information exchange.
  • Prepares and maintains required company and government logs, records and reports including analysis, metrics, trends, and corrective actions. Assure all documentation such as training records have been completed correctly and stored appropriately within company databases.
  • Serves as the company representative for worker’s compensation. Will work with the insurer and other health care providers answering their requests and getting the most appropriate care for company employees.
  • Keeps informed of new federal and state laws and assesses new developments in the health and safety field implementing all the required changes and reviewing any developments that will positively benefit the organization.
  • Works with maintenance and engineering to ensure that the company’s Process Safety Management (PSM) Program is effective and meets all regulatory requirements. This may include coordinating training events with plant personnel and assisting with drills and system audits.
  • Measures and evaluates effectiveness of safety program, using established goals and metrics to show quantifiable change.
  • Oversees safety and occupational surveillance program requirements (Respiratory, Hearing), and will be the programs manager to a multitude of other safety related programs which include but are not limited to Powered Industrial Trucks, Lock Out Tag Out, Hazard Communication, Aerial Work Platform, Blood Borne Pathogens, First Aid, Personal Protective Equipment, etc.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a safety, occupational health, and industrial hygiene, environmental, engineering or related relevant field strongly preferred.

Experience and Training

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety role, preferably at least two years in a safety leadership role. Preference for experience in a food manufacturing or similarly regulated environment.

Licenses/Certificates

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
  • First Aide/CPR certification required. Experience as a first-responder or other health care experience preferred
  • OSHA Safety training certifications highly desired
  • Process Safety Management (PSM) for ammonia and/or Refrigeration Engineering Technician certification desired
  • Experience with behavior-based safety programs and safety committees preferred.
