Quality Engineer

General Summary:
Responsibilities include aiding Metal Technologies Ravenna Operations & Plant Quality Manager with the maintenance of the current quality system, review of customer product quality requirements, timely and effective problem containment and resolution assistance with customers and suppliers, performance of internal quality audits within the division and aid in supplier auditing and development efforts. Will assist plant Quality personnel as required. Travel is required in this position to both MTI and customer facilities.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attend customer meetings as needed. Customer visits to include following up on customer rejects and concerns.
- Perform scrap reviews and report findings to manufacturing plants on a standardized format.
- Be available to work at any of the plants, on any shift, on an as needed basis to help in problem resolution or special projects that require additional resources, i.e., Launch Teams, 8 Phase teams, Six Sigma teams, Lean Manufacturing, etc.
- Assists in the training and development efforts of hourly personnel on quality specifications.
- Assists in investigation of product defects and recommendations of modifications in product, process and/or quality standards as warranted.
- Establish and maintain a good working relationship with customers, suppliers, and MTI plant personnel.
- Monitor performance of the internal quality systems and reports findings with recommendations to the Plant Quality Manager and appropriate plant personnel.
- Compile and maintain customer standings data.
- Assist in the documentation and submission of PPAP for new and changed products.
- Assists in maintaining the Corrective / Preventive Action System.
- Help manufacturing plants in the implementation of “Best Practice” processes and procedures.
- Participate in internal audits.
- Assists plant Quality Manager as directed.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic.
- Excellent team leadership skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills (8D, DOE).
- Strong ability to analyze complex situations and make timely recommendations.
- Competent in use of personal computers, software, and systems.
- In depth knowledge of PPAP, APQP, SPC, MSA & PFMEA.
- Knowledgeable in the ISO 9001/IATF 16949 standards and their requirements.
- Proficient in GD&T and blueprint reading.
- Working knowledge of quality systems, practices, and principles.
Working Conditions
- The Quality Engineer will reside in the office and on the production floor. Must be able to adhere to conditions of the plant.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and on their feet 50% on the production floor.
- Must be able to move about inside the office and in the plant.
- This position will operate a computer and other machinery in the plant.
- Must be able to frequently communicate with employees and other individuals in person and telephone.
- This position may operate a vehicle when traveling to other facilities, customers, suppliers, etc.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Engineering or technical degree and/or ASQ certification strongly preferred.
- Three to seven years of Quality or related experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
