A Civil Engineer II will be responsible for assisting in various aspects of the Civil engineering portion of a project while working under the supervision and guidance of a licensed Civil Engineer. Typical responsibilities include tasks associated with designing land development projects. This person will work in stand-alone and multi-discipline design teams supervised by senior engineers and project managers on projects of all sizes.General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:Performing various aspects of Civil design as directed by a Senior Civil Engineer including conceptual studies, design analyses, calculations, site design for buildings or subdivisions, design for infrastructure projects, and design related to a business development activity such as a response to a Request for Proposal (RFP).Preparation of programming documents, schematic documents, design development documents, and construction documents as directedCoordination and communication with design team members to ensure the Civil design details integrate properly with the work of all other project disciplinesPreparation of marketing and presentation materials as directedPerforming Civil services associated with the bidding process, including preparing addenda and amendments and opening and tabulating bids as directedPerforming Civil services associated with the construction phase, including field visits, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings as directedComplying with quality control policies and proceduresLearn and implement department and company standardsDevelop analysis and design skillsParticipating in team meetings and coordinating efforts with other team membersWorking with, responding to, and taking direction from Senior Engineers, Project Managers and Design ManagersWorking with a team of architects, engineers, interior designers and landscape architectsProject responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:Perform tasks as directed by senior staffResponsible for document organization and clarityResponsible for discipline drawing coordinationCompleting sections and details produced to a schematic-level of completion by the EngineerCreating schematic-level site layout and grading plans for projects of low to moderate complexityCreating schematic level roadway layout and grading plansDevelopment of manual calculations and analytical models for Civil analysis and design purposesParticipate in developing a model of the site design and utilities in Civil 3D on projects where modeling is a requirementAssist with preparing LEED templates on projects where LEED certification is a requirementAdhere to project budget and scheduleRequired SkillsAbility to prepare effective and concise documents and correspondence.Ability to make presentations to a variety of groupsHave a client-oriented attitude with a desire to provide outstanding professional servicesBe dedicated to his or her professional development as well as the success of colleagues and the firm as a wholeBe dedicated to the advancement of the engineering professionRequired ExperienceGraduate of an ABET-accredited 4-, 5-, or 6-year engineering program in one of the following disciplines:Civil EngineeringCivil and Environmental EngineeringCivil, Environmental and Infrastructure EngineeringCivil Engineering TechnologyPost-graduate degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering-related degree may be given additional considerationCompleted or be in a position to complete the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and all other state requirements for certification as an EIT is preferred.A Civil Engineer II should have 2-4 years of specific, post-graduation, Civil engineering experience that includes experience with designing a site, roadway, subdivision, or utilities; development of manual calculations and analytical models for Civil analysis and design purposes; development of construction documents (drawings and specifications), coordination with other design team members, and experience in responding to construction phase queries and submittals.Pursuing Professional Engineer licensure (PE) within 36 months of being hired.Understanding of sustainable design principles and design practices and pursuing LEED AP accreditation is desirableAdditional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are encouraged to reflect personal growth in the profession and an ever increasing knowledge base to enhance the design and documentation processActive membership in NSPE, ASCE or other related professional organizations is desirableA Civil Engineer II should be able to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, and information management.Working familiarity with design and production software to a point of being able to utilize the software in the development of project documents and interact with other project team members in their use of the software is highly desirable.Working ConditionsAt JMT, we prioritize a healthy work/life balance and offer a flexible hybrid working schedule. JMT offers a hybrid work schedule. The selected candidate is expected to work in a JMT office location at least three days per week or as needed to perform assigned duties. While most of our work is desk-based, there may be times when standing, walking, bending and lifting of minimal weight are required. Our office environment is comfortable, has adequate lighting and temperature, and is free from noise, dust, and other hazards.
