Pico Technology is seeking a passionate, Automotive Technical Specialist to act as the key point-of-contact for product usage and technical support to our distributors, OEM and independent repair technicians and other end-users globally. Due to the nature of this role, involving a large portion of travel, the Automotive Technical Specialist will need to be able to work in an autonomous manner with all the necessary tools and support provided by Pico Technology.


This role would suit someone with previous experience in customer support for an automotive aftermarket company or possibly an automotive master technician looking for a career move. A diagnostic background including commercial vehicles and/or off-highway vehicles, as well as passenger vehicle systems and components, would be beneficial.


Main duties of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Providing high level technical support for Automotive customers via phone, email and the Pico Technology support forum.
  • Diagnose Electrical Issues: Utilize oscilloscopes to diagnose complex electrical problems in automotive systems such as ignition systems, fuel injection systems, ABS, airbag systems, electronic control units (ECUs), sensors, and actuators.
  • Interpret Waveform Data: Interpret oscilloscope waveforms to understand the behavior of electrical signals, detect irregularities, and determine the root cause of electrical malfunctions in vehicles.
  • Collaborate with Team Members: Work closely with other automotive technicians, mechanics, and service advisors to troubleshoot complex electrical issues, share diagnostic findings, and develop effective repair strategies.
  • Create, manage and maintain automotive content. This is done through personally creating content, managing external contributions, generating help files, waveforms and on-line resources.
  • Develop and maintain marketplace intelligence regarding competitors.
  • Attend exhibitions, as well as customer and distributor training events.
  • Maintain distributor details in the company database.
  • Contribute to marketing activities and product opportunities.


These are a few of the duties required so the Automotive Application Specialist is a busy role. The role reports into the Automotive Manager so regular contact will be maintained when not on site.


This role is based out of our Tyler, Texas office but is expected to involve remote working as well.

The Automotive Applications Specialist will need:

  • A strong technical background and good understanding of automotive diagnostics, systems and components.
  • Proficiency in operating oscilloscopes and interpreting waveform data to diagnose electrical faults accurately.
  • Knowledge of automotive diagnostic tools, software, and equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, scan tools, and vehicle communication interfaces.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, with additional language proficiency advantageous but not essential; i.e.,Spanish.
  • To be self-motivated.
  • Excellent organisational, and interpersonal skills plus a high level of attention to detail.
